Would pay for a Nest Premium+ membership to get big’s real takes on the Faz course they played
watched the videos for a long time, but had forgot that tidbit provided by @mshriver3. Now we just need to findout what the J stands for.
John at -500
My money is on James, but I’m not a gambling man.
Wildcard is Jordan.
In one of the TS Scandinavia videos, Neil is blown away by the reveal that the J is for junior. Now I feel like a creep and it’s all your fault, I hope you’re happy.
My money is on Junior. So Dennis Piehowski Jr becomes DJ.
I agree with you but in some ways would rather have this post round debrief than a zoom version of the tape sessions. That format works better when everyone’s in the same room imo, so this feels like a decent option if that can’t happen.
I’m probably just jaded from consuming too much YouTube/twitch sponsored content but this series hasn’t really bothered me. Sure, it’s not the best ever and can’t touch the two juggernauts. But I’ve enjoyed having weekly videos to watch and feel like it’s just the nature of things on YouTube especially. There is some really low effort ad content out right now (not just golf).
You might be the only one who didn’t know that?
Imagine that, someone not knowing something.
Six years ago I was a very experienced golfer and if you had showed me this video I would have thought the course looks pretty cool #pure.
Since then I got into NLU and later TFE, which has led me down a path of doing a lot of reading and listening about golf courses, architecture and what makes for or interesting product. I now simultaneously want to go on road trip playing cheap public tracks in Nebraska, take another trip to Scotland, go to Sand Valley/Pinehurst/Streamsong/etc, etc. So at this point I have a much stronger opinion about what I like and what I don’t like, I guess I’m a bit of a snob.
So when NLU, the group that started me down this path of “enlightenment”, presents me with a course like this.

With that said I’m sure not every NLU fan is as much of a snob as many of us are on the Refuge. Most of them probably have lives. And of course they need to get paid and this isn’t the worst way of doing it.
I enjoyed the video. And it really didn’t feel like an ad to me. The course is whatever, what’s enjoyable is the match between two guys we like watching.
KVV reading the essay at the end was great.
Lot of shade here being thrown at a consensus top 45 public course in the country
Are all the guys putting with the 5 or 5.5 now?
Is it an ad? Sure.
Would I rather watch DJ and KVV battle each other at Morfontaine G.C.? You betcha!
Would I rather watch this crew beat each other up and make dumb jokes than have to watch some other morons play golf on YouTube? Absolutely.
According to who? Magazines and online publications that have a history of accepting payments from the courses they are ranking, or independent and reputable sources of information regarding golf course architecture?
The Omni courses are probably very enjoyable to play, but have very little to offer from a video or content standpoint.
I should have noted this in my post, very cool.
I’m not upset to have learned there is a William Flynn course in the mountains that has hosted a USWO, a US Am, and two Women’s Ams.
I’m unabashedly a course snob but I’ll need to reframe that context if a golden age Flynn with good bones is no longer cool.
Speaking of KVV, does our guy need to make a visit to Pia and Lynn? Lots of bad mojo out there in the past couple of vids.
absolutely not. if anything he should detour during the RC into Rome and get a little more literature from the Opus Dei
All three major publications. #5 Golfweek, #40 Golf Digest, #42 Golf Magazine (which enompasses all of North America).
And if you’re convinced that’s all just payola or whatever, Tom Doak gave it a 7 in the Confidential Guide and his brief review seems to suggest that if anything there’s room for that number to go up. If you’re not familiar with his scale a 7 is an, “excellent course, worth checking out if you get within 100 miles.” Other public courses he has given 7s would include Chambers Bay, Kapalua Plantation, and Rustic Canyon.
