I hope @Tron did some of the historical stuff in downtown. Such a cool course. Love to see it every chance I get. Wish they would let it get crispy in the summers.

Seeing some draws from TC has me shook.

As much as him hoping for a basic wedge shot since he’s “hitting his wedges so good?” That rocked me to my core.

The driver of the deck really was some galaxy brain shit. If you’re hitting your wedges that well, set yourself to hit your wedges.

“Hit it as far as you can to the right” immediately followed by this tracer

Had to hit pause, took me a minute to stop laughing. The timing was so perfect

I’ve played Bedford Springs probably 10 times. My mom’s from Bedford, my uncle ran the jewelry store there, my grandma lived there nearly her whole adult life… etc.

The course always had great bones — you could see that even as a player shooting 90 when I first learned to golf (my first set of clubs were some Nicklaus MacGregor VIP irons and persimmon woods from my great uncle; the six-iron had been lost by his son, so for years after I got a new set of 962b, I didn’t think I had a “yardage” for a six-iron as I learned to hit my 5I a little softer and my 7I a little harder).

The restoration was great.

Non-Course-Related

My daughter won the Tri-State PGA Junior Tour there and got one of the most hideous golf swings on a trophy…

#1 in the background (not that you can tell). (The other kid is headed to a D1 program on a full ride here in a few weeks.)

Great course, and I’ve been looking forward to this one since I heard about it.

@Tron @MerchCzar did you guys play any other courses in the area?

Is whatever is being used for the tracer in this new tech? Having it in the air and on the ground isn’t something I’ve noticed before and I really like that

Am I the only one who is somewhat worried about this partnership with Omni? I totally get needing to have sponsors, and the products and companies that NLU partners with are usually fantastic.

But, one of the biggest appeals of NLU is that the guys speak freely about the topics they make content about, including the courses they play. Just off the top of my head, for example, @Soly wasn’t the biggest fan of Greywalls in Michigan. Same with @Tron at The Loop. I fear that sponsorships with the actual courses that the guys make content about could potentially water the videos down.

@Tron thank you for saying that 1 is one of the coolest opening holes you’ve played. Haven’t found a better one on the courses I’ve played and is really a tone setter. It was the first course I played that forced me to think my way around, that small dose of golf architecture juice when I didn’t understand it at all 2 years into the game. Great to see it on video

I think the way they talk about rollback and their deal with Titleist is a good indication that they won’t shy away from speaking their minds. Now, they probably won’t go out of their way to torch the housekeeping staff at an OMNI or something but if they don’t like the course I don’t think it will be hard to tell. Even with Soly and Greywalls it wasn’t like he nuked it, he just said what he didn’t love about it, and I’d guess that would come across with something like this. If they had all of a sudden started saying things like, “Guys, we may have had it wrong about rollback, that’s not really a problem” after signing a three year deal with Titleist, I’d probably have more concerns but I think they specifically ensure they can speak their minds about things. And any good sponsor would want this.

Think it all comes down to the audience keeping it’s bullshitometer close to hand. And every person’s BSO will go off at different points.

It’s not like the guys are travelling to some totally unremarkable muni and telling us it’s the greatest course in America through gritted teeth. This is a fantastic looking course that’s been worked on by both Donny and Tilly. The quality is there, the guys at Omni just want more golfers to see it. Good on NLU for being able to be a conduit for that.

I’m sure I remember Pinehurst getting some ad space on the pod some years back. Does that make me suspicious of Soly calling No.2 his favourite 18 holes in America? Absolutely not, cos sometimes you don’t have to be lying to say that something is good.

Personally, I dislike it more when a new sponsor comes to the fore that seemingly sits way outside of not only the golfing world, but just seems out of nowhere in terms of its fit with NLU. Shoutout Cooper Tires.

When you find yourself in an internet forum earnestly discussing the sponsorship strategy of NLU.

Neil’s mic rubbing against the windbreaker the true MVP of this episode

That course looks awesome. And at the end when Tron said “you made 5 birdies!” I was shook, like what? I did not realize that. Great playing @MerchCzar.

Yeah that shocked me too, but then I thought back to how many putts he seemed to be making and how smart he was playing

At what point do we need to worry about @Tron and his current losing streak to @MerchCzar. Four straight and Neil is beating Tron with course management and smart, appropriate play along with Tron really losing that clutch gene from Tourist Sauce Scotland. Have to think Neil is going to be the favorite for this next season of Tourist Sauce.

disclaimer - I know nothing.

but, if my opinion were asked, I feel like the final frontier for Neil is picking some better start lines off the tee. Gui is hammering some fades and keeps lining up left side of the tee box and not opening the course up for himself.

Wanted to jump into the screen and stop him when he hit the F15 ball into the trees here. move to the other side of the box, aim 20 yards left and swing away.

edit - just went back and watched. 14/14 tee shots were taken from the left half of the box, a couple maybe dead middle. and he only hit fades, minus one double cross pull left.

This may have come up in other videos and I just hadn’t noticed but - what’s the editorial strategy between bleeping some curse words but not others? Just comedic effect? I thought maybe it was a sponsor obligation or something the first time I noticed it but right after that there were a few unbleeped shits and fucks.

I’m NOT a very good golfer, but one thing I was told - and it seems to work - is to do what Neil is doing here, and line up on the side the trouble is. In theory, it makes it harder to get into that trouble as the other side of the hole is more open to you. Of course, as Neil showed here, and I show routinely, that’s not an all-purpose solution if you decide to pull or push the ball directly towards the bad stuff.
