do you mean line up opposite? cause the trouble here is right to me. unless there’s something left on this hole i’m not considering.
or you mean aim at the trouble
Well, I think Tron said something like “fade it right” so I assume there’s not too much trouble right. And of course it’s the tree that he drilled off the tee on his left. So by lining up ON the left, that’s on the same side as the trouble. Aim is its own concern, but just in terms of tee box position, that’s all I’m talking about.
he doesn’t hit the tree on the left. he starts the ball too far right and it doesn’t clear the corner and catches the trees there.
Oh shoot, I got my holes mixed up.
In fairness, I’ve been up since 4:00 AM but apologies. So yeah, if trouble is on the right, line up on the right side of the tee box.
Ok so I’ll say as a high cap who struggles with a mega slice, I do sometimes opt for what Neil is doing here. The idea being that my flight is inconsistent, and can range from straight/slight pull left to MegaSlice, so being more to the left side of the tee box and aiming up the left side of the fairway means that the straight/slight left ball is going to probably be safely just left of the fairway, and the mega slice still has a chance to be ok on the other side. Whereas if I’m way to the right of the box and aiming way left, the straight ball is two holes over or even OB, and the mega slice still probably isn’t in an ideal spot
I have always lined up on the side I want to move the ball towards, tee up on the right side of the tee to hit a cut. But the thing that really struck me is how much control Neil has over the tee ball now outside of the massive chloroform ball with the 3 wood. Really need our guy Icarito to get a match with Soly on the books.
Pardon my poor excuse for a straight line, but he’s got this lined up pretty far right to try and hit a cut. He probably didn’t even fade it as much as it looked on the video because of his alignment.
Think back to the advice Heuber gave Soly in that US Open Film Room in 2021 I think, that Soly was lined up too far right to hit a cut at one point and hit the ball OB as a result. Same thing here.
As someone who is prone to a double cross, I basically take Neil’s strategy as well.
I aim at that tree in the left center of the fairway. If I hit a decent drive, it is ending up right side of fairway at worst. If I double cross, I at least keep it in play.
Missing WAY right is something I do a lot less than a dead double cross pull…so I don’t want to speak for him but I wouldn’t be shocked if this was the thought process.
I think @MerchCzar is bringing it with his game right now. A caddie who knows his game could probably save him from a number of unforced errors. And if he could then translate that same thought process into his own play, without having someone else there to walk him through each shot, he’d be real scary.
But, of course, we all are who we are.
I was wondering the same thing. Seems like Tron dropped MF’er and that got bleeped and fuck and shit were fine.
Which changes the angle, what, 0.15°? Find the best piece of turf or whatever suits your eye and hit it from there. “Changing the angle” on the tee box is almost entirely a mental thing, because the difference in actual angle is negligible.
To play devil’s advocate, I think there’s a difference between saying "rollback all the equipment b/c it’s too good. But, until they do, try the new Titleist Pro V1x left dash, the longest ball ever made and “Bedford Springs is pretty meh. If you like soulless resort golf, it’s fine, but I wouldn’t bother, especially at these prices.” The former promotes the brand, even if the sentiment is not considered in Acushnet’s long-term best interest. The latter would have direct harm on Omni’s business. You can’t say it isn’t a bigger conflict of interest.
IIRC when talking about Arcadia Bluffs they said they don’t take comped rounds b/c it compromises their objectivity. I’ll step back and say I’m not necessarily questioning their objectivity but there is a conflict of interest.
What’s in the bag???
When Neil asks what Tron hit he says “48, it’s my 125 club.” Which, knowing the T100 P is 46°, caused me to take a gander back at the Titleist fitting video and indeed Tron is listed as having the T100 irons in 6-9 only. Maybe they bend his 9 a bit weak to cover that 42° stock 9i to the 48° Vokey a bit better.

You are correct. A 48* wedge.
I think the dissonance comes from the fact that this is very clearly an Omni ad, but is in a category of content that up until now hasn’t been so “promotional consideration forward” in the form of Film Rooms. Sure there have been products featured, but in this case the course is the product.
I have no issue with any of it. They’ve been very clear about the partnership with Omni. But previously in these types of situations, it’s been more about tasteless positioning of Yetis (/s!) and awkward rangefinder grips (/s!!)
I’ll have the side eye ready when @Tron suddenly changes his tune on TPC Craig T Nelson and declares it an architectural masterpiece, brought to you by KPMG.
I’m not worried about it. This course really is amazing, so they’re not bullshitting people. My wife can recall nearly every hole from this course after only seeing it twice.
Aha! It’s a 47° wedge! Loft jacking (/s)
Really interesting gapping you’d only get from a true fitting: 47°, 49°, 53°, 57°
Btw, one thing I remember from 7th grade keyboarding that always stuck, hold Alt and press 2-4-8 on the number pad to make a degree ° symbol.
Is it just me or has the video content been lite since the Spieth Thomas video in January?
Seemed as good a place as any - is there still a NLU x Omni discount code? Or was that a limited time sitch?
TIA
