FcF Presents: The Classic Club Challenge Part Deux (CCC2) June 1st at Diamond Springs

I plan to use this as an excuse to hit the classic club shop in Bloomfield.

I’ve got a Titleist 976R driver and a TM V Steel 3 wood that could fix you right up.

Where’s that?

Bummed I can’t attend. Need to block it off for next year.

Excuse me the what

I have no idea what it’s called but it’s where you were at!

OH. Yeah that place rocks (but is not in Bloomfield which is why I was confused). It’s just called “discount golf” but you’d never know that cause I don’t think it says it literally anywhere.

FYI @Qslusser, Discount Golf on Woodward in Royal Oak is right next to Club Champion. The owner bought a ton of vintage clubs on consignment from a collector several years ago. During the original YOTB he had probably 30+ sets of vintage blades. Over the years I’ve bought probably four sets from him as have many others. So the selection of blades and persimmons are not as good as it used to be.

Well I just need to figure out if I’m going to go locate an older set of blades or use what I’ve got in the current inventory

No lie, I’ve got a steel shaft V-Steel 13* that I’m thinking about putting back in the bag on an every day basis. Need to do some testing.

What’s the ask

I listed the V Steel on TSR for $75, details here. That price is higher than you’ll see elsewhere because of the shaft.

The 976R has a steel DG S400 shaft but I can substitute a graphite stiff True Temper EI-70. Let’s say $40 shipped for the driver. Or $100 shipped for both, fresh Star Sidewinder grips included.

I’ll be rocking the same 2013 model year blades… that’s good for a stroke off your total.

we needed to play together, this may be a perfect time

So I’m going to let the class determine the top half of my bag.
Bottom half is set:

  • unknown brand putter, played by my great grandfather, with the leather wrap grip and all.
  • Watson scoring system sand wedge
  • mizuno TP-11 p-3

This is where it gets fun:
I’ll either top out my bag with a king cobra driver, 975F 3w, 200-GC 5w
OR
TP-11 1 iron and a Tom Watson by Ram Persimmon.

  • Old school metals are sick!
  • Persimmon is better
  • Fuck you, play blades (only)!
  • Butthurt/steve

I realized I left the pictures off!

I have a few options for you if you’re interested in just borrowing for the day. Or anyone else for that matter.

Here’s my setup for the event. Only need a 56 to complete the setup. Probably only going to carry a PW and a 56 as far as wedges go.

Driver: 975d (+1)

Woods: 904f 3w (+1)

Irons: 3-PW Mizuno MS-702 (+2, debuted in 1986)

Wedge: 56 deg TBD

Putter: Gorman Royal Scot (I assume +2 but I can’t find any info about this bad boy that looks like it has about 10 deg of loft, the pic is a bad angle)

I just thought of this but I really need an old carry bag for these things. I feel like carrying them in a newish Jones stand bag just doesn’t vibe, lol

Also, I’d be more than willing to bring along my OG Nike forged blades (3-PW) for anyone that wants to use them. And I also have a set of Palmer The Standard blades (2-PW) that are the smallest irons you’ve ever seen. Just holler if you want to use either and I’ll reserve them for the first taker(s).

Those irons are fucking sick.
