eBay Scavenger Hunt (NLU Episode 964)

I just finished watching the last NLU podcast about their eBay scavenger hunt and it may be one of my favorite NLU episodes of all time, certainly at least of recent memory. The ball stencils and GP record stopped me in my tracks. Fantastic finds. I hope the fellas follow through on their plan to make this an annual pod and cannot wait to see what they do with a slightly larger budget and a full year of planning and research.

I’m no collector, but I am sure plenty of people here do collect golf memorabilia and have found some absolute gems on eBay or other online shops. I am super curious what your best finds are.

Made the mistake of flipping it on YouTube around 11pm last night. And I say mistake because there was no way I was turning it off and ended up watching the entire thing even though I had to get up early for work. One of the all timers for sure, already can’t wait for next year’s game.

This was a great watch. I’m kind of a big “random stuff on eBay” fan and oddly enough, I was just going down the autographed rookie card rabbit hole a few days ago.

I didn’t pull the trigger on this signed Marty Dou card.

Hilarious podcast. I immediately went to eBay and bought a be nice to Monty button.

Seriously cackling over the Tiger Woods and Mona Lisa painting.

The fact that it’s adverstised as “limited edition, signed & numbered” makes it even better.

I have one of those “Hush, y’all” paddles but it’s green on white. Never seen the white on green, that’s pretty sick.

Great episode idea!

Not sure I’d classify this as a best my find, but I recently picked this up for my wife on eBay:

Background:

My wife™ and I made our first trip to Pebble/Monterey Peninsula in 2021 and we completely fell in love with it. For anyone wondering, people who live within gated confines of Pebble Beach put these little metal tags on their car to help with access past the toll/gated section for entry into Pebble and 17 mile drive. Some of the really old tags can go for a lot more money but given significance of our trip in 2021, I plan to mount it to some sort of display with a photo and give it to her later this year for our “Metal” anniversary.

My grandpa used to live in pebble beach. I never realized how lucky I was to go visit there every year. Unfortunately he wasn’t one of the ones with generational wealth. I wish we would’ve thought to snag these tags when he passed.

This is easily Top 10 episodes not directly related to the professional game they’ve ever done.

@KVV you should look into Retroid handheld game systems and get deep into the ROM scene.

Such a banger of a pod. I lost it at the Uncle Juice signed ball, hope that thing makes it onto the shelf in TC’s background soon.

My favorite random golf ebay purchase is this tile (I assume) from the 1986 PGA at Inverness.

There are multiple NES editions of Jack Nicklaus Golf signed by the Golden Bear himself on ebay, but they are out of the budget.

I’ve never laughed so hard at any podcast including ones with comedians. Truly an all time great one

Living in Connecticut, this VHS aerial tour of the two courses hosting the 2002 U.S. Mid-Am intrigued me, especially for only $12.

I also have to talk myself out of this 3’x5’ flag of the Players that got cancelled.

I found a vintage “foot wedge” for a secret Santa. Didn’t even know what I was looking for as I searched but it fit the name to well. Was meant to be Refuge Secret Santa - 2024: See you in November! - #1858 by FootWedges

Was searching for something United Airlines related and came across this sweet leather bag tag from the Hawaiian Open.

This is also how I learned that United was the sponsor in the 90’s prior to Sony. Learn something new every day on here!

They should turn this into a secret santa type thing they do during the holidays, and they open up the ebay finds they receive from others on a live show
