Do Ping Zing Blondes count?

Tough to find the balatas though, so I use a low compression ball.

I only have opinions on courses I have played.
Ballybunion smokes Sawgrass. As does Turnberry. As does Porthcawl.

I could go on.

Sahith’s comments are one of the 500 reasons to love that dude…

The hole doesn’t stink, but the slopes due to the sand buildup are out of control and should be softened to be more playable and in the spirit of the original design.

The bushes are dumb as shit, like something from a clunky muni in the Midwest (as a Midwesterner I can say it but you can’t). They serve no practical purpose, and they are ugly.

The grassing issue at Riv can’t be fixed so Rory and everyone else should embrace it as part of the golf course. Just addressing certain aprons etc. is a waste of money and time; it’d be back soon, anyway.

Saying the green is too small to hit a wedge onto with the modern golf ball is a bad take, too. It’s a short hole, so if you play conservatively to put a wedge in your hand, it should be a tougher shot. If you can play a 296 yard hole as a tour pro (whose handicap would be +10) and don’t want to take on risk with either shot, you’ve got the wrong attitude. Golf is a game in the elements. Bad bounces happen. Etc etc. Rub of the green.

Precisely why links golf is best.

And if you don’t like that, go play in an e-league in Korea or just use your Trackman in your garage.

There is a set of pros that would probably think a Trackman combine is the truest measurement of a skilled player.

Screw what the players think.

What does matter, as a fan of this tournament specifically, is that the hole (with these players, this equipment, these green conditions) is not particularly interesting right now. It’s only interesting when somebody embarrasses themselves on the green, every few groups.

Stats from this year showed that only holes 2 & 12 had more double bogies or worse than 10, both of which are bearishly difficult holes and both played over par for the week.

10 played under par and once again had the widest variety of scores of all the par-4s with the most distribution between birdie/par/bogey of any hole.

Yes, it needs a slight tweak to the pitch of the green and equipment/maintenance practices have made the hole a lesser version of itself. But even with all of that, the hole still produces the most scoring variety of any hole on the course and arguably of any hole in competitive golf.

Yes but I would argue the variety of out come is specifically related to the difficulty of the green. So agreed, when pros look foolish, as they do at 10 somewhat often, it’s interesting.

But I think what we don’t see is a variety of shots or strategies of the tee, which is what we want to see on a short 4.

I think that’s fair, especially the tee shot take. Have things like DECADE contributed? For sure. But I contribute the everyone hitting driver to more of an equipment issue.

Also, as more and more players grow up with stats/metrics and DECADE-like systems we are naturally going to see fewer and fewer differences in strategy. It will eventually get to a singularity and that’s unfortunate and unstoppable. I’d argue that 10 spits in the face of that through meting out variable scoring.

Basically most holes in most US Opens.

Nice article @KVV. Quick query on this section, though it doesn’t take out the overriding point with regards the stinkiness of the whole “waving groups up”.

Imagine having to wait 15 minutes to know if a 3-pointer by Steph Curry found the bottom of the net after he let it fly. Some of that might be a golf problem, but imagine how it will feel on Sunday if Max Homa or Keith Mitchell is trying to chase down Jon Rahm and one of them drives the green. Now imagine they have to stand around and wait 12 minutes before they get a chance to stand over it with a putter. And that’s the best case scenario!

If these guys are in the last group then there won’t be anyone to wave up, right?

First, just so you know. You laughing at my take is the biggest badge of honor I could ever receive as you undoubtably, without question, have the worst fucking golf takes of literally anyone I have ever interacted with online or in person. So, thank you.

Secondly, prove what I said wrong. Does 10 not produce the most scoring variety of any hole at Riviera with the most distribution between birdie/par/bogey?

I’ll even provide the link to the stats …
