Crash Course: Dormie Club and Buried Tractors

Dormie club looks pretty cool and all but the story about the buried equipment brought back to memory an infamous local golf story from Weatherford, TX.

Really, really like Dormie Club.

Only real disappointment there is that the old clubhouse is gone.

Sounds like something that would happen at some of the golf courses I worked at back in the day… What a great story

Old clubhouse and the stay to play rule. Really wish that Tobacco road travel could still get a few times.

Beyond sad that you can’t get on and the old clubhouse is gone. I can’t imagine it has the same vibe as it did. I always said it felt like a rush gold sicko said I want a course in the woods and I don’t want to spend money on anything but the course itself. I haven’t watched this yet but just seeing what’s going on beyond the 18th green is just shitty. Two of the guys from my golf trip got into a slap fight one time by the benches. One of the funniest things I’ve ever witnessed.

Loved the video. I played Dormie Club once after a full-day downpour in March 2019. Standing water everywhere, absolutely no bounce and roll. I can’t wait to go back someday.

Some photos from my first visit there in 2017…

Yeah, it’s terrible. I took this from an Adirondack chair beyond 18 a few months ago with @JohnP while drinking bourbon and smoking a cigar, and I can’t tell you what a bummer it was.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it’s nice. Just not the same.

Played it earlier this year right before it went private. It was the first weekend getaway my wife and I had taken since our honeymoon. I hadn’t played golf all winter at that point so I loved the course and kept dreaming of a return trip when I had my game going. Really wish they had kept the old vibe and clubhouse. Maybe I’ll get there again someday.

I’m not bashing the new construction because I’m hoping to stay there some time in the near future.

Never saw the old clubhouse, but this one didn’t suck…just wish I had better company that day

@anon47037505 New facilities are surely nice, Zac Blair told me that this sort of destination private club thing is the only thing I should ever care about in golf. I guess if you need that to enjoy golf you just aren’t as much a purist as I.

In seriousness, Dormie Club was awesome the half dozen or so times I played it, and catching it in the “post recession, can’t make money, no real members” period was a really cool novelty. I’m happy it has a membership now because that course is so so good.

When you play as badly as I do, yes you need those things most of the time.

But Dormie is a really fun golf course, and still not that difficult to get on. And when you do, you can play fast and feel uncrowded, etc.

Curious if they have carts now…it’s kinda of a brutal walk. Enjoyable, but very tired legs after a round.

Yes.

How not difficult is not “that” difficult?

Dormie is one of my favorites and this sign always makes me giggle.

Dormie Network has thousands of members. It ain’t Pine Valley.
