Cincinnati golfers

You aren’t going to believe this but I split that fairway with a club that was making its maiden voyage in my bag.

Look familiar?

Stonelick Hills is my favorite. Shaker Run in 2011 was awesome. Elk Run and Legendary Run are up there. Lassing Pointe is purty good. King’s Island’s course is pretty good, too. Cincinnati is a great town.

You’re a better man than me! Good for you, glad someone is finding some success with her.

A better man, nay. Higher club head speed? Possibly.

Just played the Vineyard this year for the first time. Been playing for 15 years and only just went now. Now one of my favorite here.

Vineyard is a good one!

I’ve been in Cinci for about 3.5 years, haven’t played much on the private side of things, but I thought Lassing was a good course with a ton of potential. I’m a sucker for Avon though, it brings out some creativity, and is a good walk that can be done sub 3 hours.

Stonelick definitely gets my vote as the best course in the area. I’m a fan of all the other ones you listed as well. Legendary Run is what I would consider my home course, but not loving the new ownership. Wasn’t a fan of the tree removals, and conditions seemed generally worse this year. Really hoping 2020 is better as it is a good Arthur Hills design.

Devou is definitely a bit gimmicky. You can easily survive a round without using the drive, but who doesn’t want to try and drive the green on the short par 4s.

My man! Welcome.

Been playing golf in the Nati for 20 years and my current favorite is Stonelick. If you are willing to pony up, it is worth it. Good holes and always in good shape. I play in a golf league at the mother of all muni’s - Reeves aka Lunken. Love the par 3’s on this track from the tips - will have to hit very different clubs based on the wind.

I moved out of Cincy a year ago but my roommate and I would play Reeves, or as we called it The Royal Air Force Base at Reeves about once a week. Good track and really cool to have planes landing over your shots.

Avon is great during the summer if you can get there by 4pm. If you get there after 4pm during the summer, it can be super busy.

California is an underrated course, imo. It feels very removed from the city, even though it’s not too far away. It’s a very nice walk.

If I have time to drive, I love going to Stonelick or Elks Run.

I played Elks for the first time in about 12 years and wow what a change. Gone is all the heather! A very score-able course now since the rough is less of a penalty than the heather.

They’ve cut down a lot of that in just the past year or two. The back nine is especially a lot more friendly than it used to be.

California is a tale of two 9s for me, but maybe that’s just because my league plays it 9 at a time.

Front 9 is great. Easy walk, good variety of holes that will reward you if you play them right.

Back 9 is a grind. Eight par 4s and one par 3. Narrow in places with woods on both sides. Not many chances to “go for it” and I end up playing conservatively to keep the ball in play. A lot more hills to walk up & down, and after 16 there is 1/3 mile walk along the reservoir to get to the 17th tee, so hopefully you can catch a ride.

Still a great course overall, conditioning is usually pretty good for a CRC course, I just wish the back 9 had some more variety to it.

Another question for you all, What is your favorite course that is 1-2 hour drive away?

I would say The Virtues (East of columbus) was worth the trip last summer. I also really like playing The Links at Rising Star casino. Wish we had more links style courses to play.

Will be giving Brickyard crossing a try this summer.

An underrated gem that is one of my favorites, if not my numero uno, is Harbor Links out in Brookville (used to be called Buck Point). P.B. Dye design next to the lake, several holes where it comes directly into play. The inland holes are just as good as the ones on the shore, some thoughtful and some challenging. As you can imagine, gorgeous views abound, and conditions are usually prime. Also a fairly cheap loop, and you can typically find some decent deals on GolfNow

The Brickyard is a lot of fun. Very difficult, but very cool. The Fort, which is another Pete Dye course in Indianapolis, is probably my favorite in the area.

Both nice picks. I really liked Purgatory if making an Indy trip.
