Chicagoland Matchplay Tournament 2023 - 2CGC Team Qualifier

If the finalists go to the Ope-in as partners anyway, it would be cool to do this as a fourball event. Could then get more folks involved without making the bracket too unwieldy.

Toughhhh to balance schedules that way though…

Preferably, @BaxterMSP and the powers that be will open up a few more spots in said event so you have more than one team from each state competing (with the exception of Nebraska since they all bailed last minute)

Did these matches ever get played?

i am awaiting the victor of @TheAbeFroman and @TCRBrad

the ship was going to be played on 10/15 but my parents may be visiting now that weekend… shit.

Ran into a buzzsaw a few weekends ago as @TheAbeFroman won 4&3
They had canned Gatorade at the course though…so all in all everybody won

Ok then @TheAbeFroman its me and you. What’s old is new again.

Hey all -

The Chicago match play bracket is gonna be back in 2022 as a qualifier for one of our Roost team spots. Winner gets a spot on the squad and alternates coming from the match play final standings.

@JBors - do you think think a 32 player match play bracket could be completed between April and mid-August? Asking because it looked like you were the point man for this last season.

There’s a chicken place called roost in lakeview and it’s delicious. I can’t let this continue to go unsaid.

Honestly I don’t think it can be. It appeared people really struggled to get these matches schedule which led to a ton of delays. Might need to get creative.

Even if we did a bunch of first round matches at Mudness?

It’s so good.

Morning round can be quota and a match simultaneously.

Will be a bit tricky as not all Mudders are Chicagoland but I’m sure we can figure it out.

I assume most guys playing in the Roost team qualifier match play will already be going to Mudness. We can put together the bracket in a way that knocks out as many first round matches as possible at Elks.

Hopefully not overcomplicating things, but there’s mudness and the Burban memorial for early season. There’s also the Mt. Prospect vs. Schaumburg vs. Sunset Valley which could be a setting for matches

Could be hard to integrate the match play bracket into separate events. Mudness seems like an easy enough start to hopefully knock out most of the first round.

I hear 12 hole matches are all the rage these days.

you could just say you have to play in mudness if you want to be in the 32 person match play tournament to kick things off.

We do round 1 in the morning along with the mudness stuff.

you’d then have four months for the final four rounds leading to August. That’s not a ton of time but it can be done.

You can make sure people sign up for the match play with the expectation that if they win, they have four weeks to coordinate a match with their opponent.

Round of 16 deadline: May 1
Round of 8 deadline: June 1
Round of 4 deadline: July 1
Championship deadline: August 1
