It’s such a bad faith argument. You can’t criticise the amount of ads on anything if you yourselves have even one ad in your content. He must know it’s a bad faith argument, given he’s an adult person.
To argue that the broadcast ad load and NLU are the same cos NLU put a 2 minute ad in a 2:05 hour pod…? Take it away please.
Also - “the TV companies have overpaid SO MUCH for these contracts that stuffing the product with ads is the ONLY way to even get close to re-couping” isn’t the get-out-of-jail-free card that he thinks it it.

Someone should tell him that they didn’t have to pay $1Bn for those rights. That’s the amount they chose to bid. And factored into that decision was some calculus on how much revenue from commercials they would get.
I’m sure NLU does the same, but at least they take into consideration what the inclusion of too many commercials does to the product.

Brandel’s knee jerk response is the epitome of all the Tour/TV execs that seem to think commercials are literally the only way to recoup expenses and allow advertisements. How’s golf literally the only sport that can’t seem to get creative at all about allowing opportunities to feature sponsors that don’t interrupt the flow every 5 minutes? Sponsored commercial free blocks, signs on the course, digital green screen ads on the fairways/greens, heck even allow sponsored holes, etc.
Just feels like there are so many opportunities and no one is willing to even try anything. All they can think of is more commercials.
