Ira keeps correcting me on my verbiage in our text messages as well. But Mansfield, Midlothian, Waxahachie areas. We travel almost every other week. So the drive time to the airport is a concern for me.
FWIW: I know DFW gets poor reviews from lots of the NLU guys, but I personally think it’s a pretty good airport as your home airport and can go anywhere you need very easily.
I agree with this, once you learn how/where to park, DFW is pretty easy. And direct flights everywhere
If you’re just glued to the DFW idea, then I’d take a serious look at Prosper. It’s due North of Dallas and in between Denton and McKinney. About a 45 min drive to Love Field.
And since you’re looking for larger lots (possibly land), I would also check out Argyle.
As someone who drives to DFW quite a bit once you hit Ft. Worth getting to the airport is quick and easy. 121 runs all the way there and there is an express lane if you so choose. Getting there from the East can be a nightmare, especially from the areas you are talking about. It should be a concern.
Speaking from experience, my wife and I sold our house in north west Dallas in Oct mainly to upgrade space and get out of the abomination that is DISD (big public school fam but the admin is a joke). We saw 23 houses in a month basically from Grapevine, The Colony, Frisco, McKinney, Plano and put in 6 offers before getting one under contract and landing in Allen. We had no contingencies, great credit, and the ability to put a bunch of cash down from some idiot paying $280 a sq foot for our house in cash. You have to be ready to put in an offer in 24 hrs or less and hope someone doesn’t swoop in with a cash offer. Happened to us 3 different times and twice we were the highest offer. Lot of great houses out there even in the offseason for families, but man I’m never doing this again.
New Braunfels and that whole area along the edge of the hill country is awesome, but the market is crazy.
This is the part no one has been saying out loud within this thread
If I wasn’t in a serious relationship with someone whose whole family is in Dallas, I’d probably end up back in (INSERT ANY LOCATION HERE)
Thanks for dropping in. We still have a few spots left for The Ice Bowl on Jan 30 if you want to join (or anyone else). Otherwise, the WhatsApp thread is a great way to meet people since there are tee times going off several times a week right now. Currently thinking through the rest of the spring for a few more organized events as well.
Forgot about this. I have to re-emphasize my pick for Wimberly/San Marcos because you will be infinitely better served getting in and outta Bergstrom ATX airport than if you lived in Midlothian or Wax or western Ft. Worth.
And I voted for Ft. Worth. South Austin to SA corridor is what you need. Wimberly lots will always be insane or get over into Dripping Springs if you need to. And commute to the major airport will still be better than anywhere in DFW, which truly is a menace.
Woof, waxahachie to DFW is a tough scene. I’d look at argyle or west of there if you want a bigger piece of land. You can probably find that out past justin. Argyle has large lots but they are expensive.
I didn’t jump in here since, given the earlier comments, I felt like FW was probably going to win out (and rightly so - FW is badass). But given the need for easy airport access AND the desire for “some land,” I just wanted to put a +1 for Dripping Springs, San Marcos/NB, and Bastrop, probably in that order.
Highway 290 that runs E/W through South Austin and out into Dripping is getting a major, 10-year style upgrade that’s just now starting. The construction is going to be literal hell, but once it’s done you should have almost 0 stoplights from Downtown dripping springs to AUS (Bergstrom). Plus, there are parts of dripping that are juuuuuust now starting to flip over from “elderly couple that’s lived there since 1952” into “holy shit lady you own 18 acres out here!??!” new developments. Lots of tear downs, lots of big renovations on existing homes, you can get land and the schools are pretty exceptional. It’s not the cheapest in the world anymore due to the Austin boom, but it’s still better than Austin proper in terms of prices. And once that highway goes in, access times to the airport are gonna be even better.
San Marcos/NB brings in the ability to fly from AUS or SAN. SAN is a sneaky-good little airport, especially if you can’t find a direct from AUS anyway. Grab a SWA flight to HOU or DAL out of SAN, and you can then get anywhere, and there are morning and afternoon dailies on the big3 to each of their hubs, too.
Touche.
Just as they stated on the TrapDraw SAN is a great airport really close to the city. However, I think it would be better to fly out of SAT since San Antonio is quite a bit closer that San Diego!
Ha! Indeed … while I do enjoy San Diego, San Antonio is far more proximal to San Marcos. Good catch!
SAT is a great visiting airport for work trips, rental car center via short walk and no shuttle wait makes day trips there so nice.
Love this forum. Ready for new golf opportunities.
I’m drunk posting. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Go Big Plex!
Can’t wait to meet more of y’all in 2022!
I’m not sure how to DM you, but I need to WD from the Ice Bowl. I paid with Venmo and if I could get a refund, cool. If not, may it go to a good cause. Regardless, someone can have my spot. We’re moving in the next few weeks and I have entered the transfer portal.
I will be taking my modest talents to North Carolina and joining The Queen’s Roost.
I have enjoyed my brief time here in Big Plex and I wish you all the best in the future.
Yeah I will send you a refund, no worries. Just as a psa you can DM someone who’s account is set to private. Just great a blank new message and type the handle in there and it will populate. Thanks for the heads up.
