A thread for the Texas folks

Da-Plex golf is so broad, I suggest adding a divisional component. Maybe create a quasi mason dixon line for East v West.
(that Rosen-Rosen tool from AvidGolfer does this annually)
OR could Plex C-Suite v Strapped.

Agree with @Jdonelson - if you’re set on going off property I’d drive 15 extra minutes and go to Stanley’s BBQ in Tyler. Great food and they usually have some live music on the weekends. There’s also a relatively new small grocery store (Spring Market) in Frankston that will have the essentials you need for grilling out.

It wasn’t even on purpose, it just happens all on it’s own.

Appreciate the feedback! Maybe we’ll do burgers and dogs one night and steaks the next.

Pro shop said the grill closes at dusk, so I don’t think it’ll be an option for dinner. There’s also only four of us going.

You can call ahead and have them make you something and box it up. May not be an ideal situation, but could simplify the evening. Just a thought.

Especially if you forget to bring eating utensils.

There’s a pizza joint int Frankston that will deliver to the course too. Can’t remember the name but it’s worked in a pinch when grill was closed.

Apologies if this has been answered previously - thinking of getting a group together for a Pine Dunes trip in the spring. I’m a sicko and will want to play twice a day, but if people don’t want to, is there anything out at the property to do? Last time I was there was before the new condos went up and it was kinda before word really got out about the place, so I’m just not as familiar with what’s been added since.

i’ve heard (maybe from experience?) drinking beers, playing cornhole, and betting on groups coming up 18 works in any and all situations

I recall there being a fire pit out there. But unsure what the situation is with it. It did not get used during those chilly June evenings.

ETA: Shoutout to the Fire Pit Collective.

So we’ve done a couple trips out there. They’ve closed at dusk before, but they’ve also kept the grill open late. When we went this past summer it was only our group staying on site and they kept the grill open till like midnight for just us.

edit: I say grill, but it may have just been the bar they kept open but closed the kitchen.

I frequently play the weekend money groups out at Lake Waco! I play Bear Ridge occasionally and practice at Cottonwood.

Ridgewood is great, just played (and won!) a tournament out there about a month ago. I know they’re shutting it down soon, right?

Anyways, would love to link up and play sometime!

Do you you know a club pro in your area named Chris Clifton?

As a student at Baylor we used to play Battle Lake. Is that still around? Out in Mart I believe.

@Kileyword yeah we’re going to do a pretty substantial renovation starting Feb 2023–hopefully it won’t take more than 14-16 months. Not great, but it’ll make a the course a lot better (and it’s already pretty solid).

I’ve only played Lake Waco once. It wasn’t in great condition then and I’ve heard it’s gotten rougher. What’s your opinion?

Bear Ridge is a really fun layout, but they still have a long way to go to get it back in the shape it was in 10+ years ago. They used to run a $15 walking deal for Baylor faculty. I played that course for a long time before I even saw Cottonwood.

Cliffy says, you’re the man.
