For those that don’t want to read it, these guys were on the green putting out, some numbnuts hits into them while they’re ON THE GREEN (this isn’t a “Oh I don’t usually hit it a 300 yard drive” moment), and then has the Asian Man Swilken Bridge audacity to go up and attack him with his club in the head after they moved his ball off the green.
Hey, new to Refuge. Live in Dallas proper. Play a lot at Sherrill Park, Tenison, and Pecan Hollow. 1 handicap. Play TxGA events and tried my hand at the US MidAm qualifier on Monday. It didn’t go well.
What course was the MidAm qualifier? Tough conditions?
Gentle Creek in Prosper, TX. It was 105 and 65% humidity. Wind was 12-15. Not too bad of conditions, I was just extremely nervous since it was my first USGA event. And I have a herniated disc currently. Felt fine on Monday though, so can’t blame my play on that.
Those attending the Golfers Journal event at Trinity be sure to check your email.
Any news on Stevens Park and their greens?
Any P1’s of ‘The Ticket’ on here?
Also, anyone on here taken lessons in the DFW area? Recommendations?
I listen to the Ticket every day on the app. Huge fan of the Musers and Bad Radio but I can’t stand listening to Corby anymore.
Also took lessons with Cliff Mishler at Hank Haney’s in Lewisville before I moved out of Dallas. I really liked it and thought he was a good instructor.
I take lessons from Nick Dunn. He’s with Altus Performance. He teaches out of the Colony. It’s a bit of a hike for me, but I’ve enjoyed working with him so far.
Saw Sturm was retweeting @MerchCzar in TGJ over the weekend - worlds colliding here.
I heard him mention the NLU guys when he did the Ben Hogan segment a few weeks back. He also mentioned the California tourist sauce when they were at training camp.
That’s cool. I rarely get to listen to BAD Radio since they’re on in the middle of the day but I love a good Bob and Dan fight, and they do have the best actual sports content of all the Ticket programs.
I didn’t see that Icarito tweet from Bob until you mentioned it. I would love it if one of the Ticket shows had some of the NLU guys on but that seems unlikely.
Seems like a good fit of personalities and good way for both to get new exposure to similar audiences. It would probably have to be some sort of (golf) event or promotional tie-in for it to make sense.
Played Stevens a couple of weeks ago - greens were in good shape. Not super fast or super slow, but rolling true
Are they reopen again? I thought they closed for a while due to killing the greens?
Reopened in early July, I believe. Greens and Teeboxes were all re-done because they died over the winter, but now they’re in great shape.
Decent hotel for Trinity Forest next month. Help please.
I’ve stayed at the Omni several times and its great but pricey. Probably want to stay in that area and go hang out in Deep Ellum.
I’m from Fort Worth, went to Tech and have worked in West/North Texas ever since graduating. Private courses aside, in the FW area, I think that Tierra Verde is a good option, its a 10-15 minute drive because its down in Mansfield but its very well maintained and has some interesting terrain to it (I also highly recommend their resident instructor, Amy Fox). Whenever I get together with Dallas friends to play we like to meet at water chase out in Arlington. It is basically right in between Dallas and FW. Again, well maintained but take plenty of balls (see its name for reasoning). I’ve only played Sugartree once but it is a solid track I just haven’t found another time to make it out there. Hawks creek is probably my go to for weekday or quick in town rounds that I don’t want to travel for. Also, Texas Star is another one that I highly recommend. Normally play out there a couple times a year for industry tournaments. Whitestone and Pecan Valley are ok courses as well.
Other random courses around the state that I have enjoyed over the years:
-Quicksand out in San Angelo. Great course in a very unexpected place, its on the cusp of West Texas so if you make it out there in the summer its going to be hot and I have yet to see one but it always feels very snake but I highly recommend playing it if you are in the area.
-Lady Bird Johnson in Fredericksburg is a good muni down there if you dont want to shell out the 500 or whatever to play at Boot Ranch.
-Pamilla in Port Aransas is a blast.
-The Cliffs at Possum Kingdom is a must if you are going to be out there (it may be private/semiprivate) but worth it if you can get on.
-Rawls is another must if you happen to find yourself in Lubbock. I cannot stress that enough, its a phenomenal course.
I have heard really good things about the new Texas Rangers Course but have not gotten to play there myself. Cowboys course is pretty good but look for deals somewhere, its not worth it at full price (airplanes there can get very annoying)
Google Maps says this is the closest one to the golf course. Not exactly what I’m looking for but you do you.

I’ll probably just stay at something that’s on my way out of town. I’m looking forward to the 2 man but wish they would provide some more info about logistics and stuff like that.
