A thread for the Texas folks

I’m in SA too this weekend and always looking for a game

I think it’s just 2 of us. 7:51 Sunday. Let’s go!!

I think Southlake is a great option for both of those. Typically regarded as the best school district in DFW, good area for a lot of courses near by. Price point of houses is pretty high I believe.

I live in McKinney, not a great spot for public golf, but not terrible. Kind of surrounded by country clubs.

Im in SA for the next month (except for this weekend of course) always looking for games or people to play with

If you’re working from home, then you really can choose based on what kind of living experience you want - suburban/urban, private school/public school, etc.

I live in Dallas proper because my wife and I both work in the city, and commute is important. And we also prefer the city to the suburbs. In Dallas proper, Lakewood, Lake Highlands, M Streets, and Hollywood Heights in east Dallas are all great neighborhoods for families with young or school age kids. We really like the east side because it has a lot more trees, some elevation change, close to White Rock Lake for running/biking/paddling, etc., and still has neighborhoods with good schools.

West of 75, Devonshire is great too for young families, and a more affordable than the really high end neighborhoods nearby. Even Kessler Park and Stevens Park are really nice and cool historic neighborhoods, they’re just more proximate to rougher neighborhoods - think rich hipsters. If your budget is higher, Preston Hollow and the Park Cities are super nice, but pretty damn expensive to get into, and PH really feeds into private schools. Pretty hard to get into those neighborhoods for under $1mm just for the lot.

As far as suburbs, Frisco is also exploding and fairly close to a lot of semi-private and daily fee options, including The Tribute and Old American. Obviously, I’ve heard good things about both Southlake and Keller as to both schools and community. All those northern suburbs make for an easy trip to DFW, but much further from Love Field, which we use more.

Housing prices have changed a lot in the last 5 years, and now there seems to be limited inventory on the market that is sitting at inflated prices, even in desirable neighborhoods, at least in Dallas proper.

In the city, your golf choices are either a pretty good selection of munis (Tenison, Stevens Park, Cedar Crest), or expensive CCs with long waitlists. In the suburbs, more daily fee and semi-private courses.

If you ever make the trip up to scout out places, let me know, would be happy to sneak out for a round.

Has anyone played Steven’s Park since the reopen? Curious as to how the new greens look.

Just wanted to introduce myself as relatively new to Austin and always up for a game. I’m the founder and CEO of Walker Trolleys, a new high-end golf push cart startup for golfers who appreciate design, form and function. We are based in Austin and support all efforts towards promoting walking the game. Feel free to check out our website (www.WalkerTrolleys.com) and message me if you’re interested in playing a round.

Brackenridge Park in SA was awesome. Loved all the greens bunkering. Only downside was the 5 minute wait on every tee. Well, and me having 37 putts…

Traveling to Houston (Pasadena & Deer Park area) next week for work and looking for a course with a driving range and practice facility in the area.

Thanks,
Ben

@MikeHoncho and I could usually be found at least twice a month at Riverside in Grand Prairie, not bad public golf for what you pay. I’m also looking forward to seeing how the Lakes Course renovation at Indian Creek turns out… Thinking about pulling the trigger on an under 30 membership there once the fall comes. Carrollton is underrated with some great options.

With the exception of this hole, I endorse Riverside.

I usually just black out on this hole to reset the round anyway

Battleground in Deer Park has a good driving range and three practice holes. The course itself is pretty tight and it wouldent be my first choice. Close to Pasadena is Timber Creek, Wildcat, or Clear Creek. Pasadena Muni isnt that great but it might have a driving range.

Anybody in the DFW area interested in playing in this on Saturday? Myself and a buddy were thinking of playing. I think it’s only $60 if you prepay but not positive on that.

Man, wish I was free on Saturday. Sounds fun.

I am free Sunday, anyone wanting to play early Sunday?

I’m not sure how I feel about Indian Creek very prominently showing off an employee who was named “Cart Girl of the Month” by Avid Golfer on the home page.

Played Indian creek in high school. It’s very tight if my memory serves me right. I might have just been wayward off the tee, at least more so than I am now.

Where did you see this? Sounds like they’re living way under par over there.

Looks like somebody’s got an in at Avid Golfer Magazine. Never played out here though so wanted to try it out. If not, going to go try out Riverside on your recommendation of hole 6 alone.
