A thread for the Texas folks

Would love to get in on this but the spreadsheet is looking pretty full… have I missed the boat?

Sign up and see what the final numbers end up looking like, can’t hurt.

Holy cow, Austin is expensive!

Laz, you gonna come down here for this event and join us at Redneck Pine Valley?

And pay hasn’t really caught up compared to the other large cities in Texas. It’s one of the only things preventing me from moving there.

Well a guy who lives in Pacific Paisades (in a mega house) just left for Austin (in a mega house) and I was Zillow-ing and just like…wow…what the hell. And am I right there are 2 counties that split Austin? Are taxes different? They aren’t insignificant.

Never Zillow on an empty wallet. I think all of Austin is in Travis County. Property taxes are high across the state because of no income tax. We gotta build our massive overpasses and split-level highways somehow.

It’s weirdly not. Most of Austin is in Travis county but some parts are in Williamson and Hays.

North boundary (I-45) pretty much separates Travis (Austin Inner) from Williamson (north side) to the south you’re splitting SE with Bastrop and SW with Hays. I moved here10 months ago. Shocking to say the least about housing market here. That’s coming from a realtor.

Depends on your field. I work for a utility and pay definitely doesn’t equal what it was in central california, about $20k behind for same job title. But if you’re in a sales type job, or an entrepreneurial type job, you can make excellent money

ATX has for at least the last 20 years had way more job-seeking and residential demand than actual jobs, which has deflated pay compared to the cost of real estate. UT is a huge driver of that, but so is the fact that Austin is not Dallas or Houston, but all 3 get more similar by the day.

Speaking of, Tom Herman’s hut is available :joy:

I was even comparing it to other Texas cities and with easily transferable jobs. Teachers make $3k less per year in Austin compared to Houston, hourly pay for RN’s is almost $4 less, accountants $2.5K less. It’s just worse pay across the board.

A fitting end for that piece of shit. He left our courtesy car at the airport on his way out of Houston, full of trash and with his 2015 Peach Bowl ring in the cupholder.

Meanwhile if you compared indexed cost of living…well you get the point

Yeah but then you’d have to live in Houston. My old companies hq was there and it just never appealed to me. Too many damn Astros fans

I’m a Yankees fan (from the Northeast originally) that now lives in Houston…trust me I know

They’re, just, the worst

It’s so funny, growing up in Houston I was always frustrated by how apathetic Stros fans were and little coverage they got despite good teams because of all the air NYY and BOS and STL sucked up. It’s been really strange seeing the team and fans become the heels.
