From the D tees it’s only 170 to carry the pond. Just saying.
16 was fine. Just fine. Sure I dunked one into the water on my 2nd shot. But that was on me. Coulda gone for the layup down the pond edge. But the spirit of the thing you know?

Dude, they have forward tees for people of your age
Yes, but the vanity cap organizer of the event I was playing in made us hit from the “E” tees.
Just gonna reiterate what everyone’s already said. Big thanks to @BaxterMSP for putting in the work and organizing such a fun and smoothly run event! The MN Contingent continues to show out.
Thanks to @tj_denawli and his brother Robbie on hosting everyone Friday at Falling Knife. It was great to showcase some killer MN brews to the out of town crew.
With a slightly foggy brain Saturday morning (shoutout Eagle Rare), it was great to hop back in the cart with my partner from the day before @Layups4basketball. Dude stripes the shit out of the ball. Compression for days!
It was also fun to get to hear @anon47037505 and @Waldorf98 bicker back and forth like an old married couple and hear Derek’s raving reviews of the cart path placements on the executive 9, particularly the one running parallel to #9’s fairway.
Nate and I got paired with @anon24718094 and @LernhardBanger for the 18 holer and what it treat it was to start on the back and triple #10. Outside of the dogshit start, we had a blast out there and the vibes were flowing. I had shoe envy of both Mark’s loud ass Adidas and Dylan’s crispy FJ Premiere’s.
And as far as #16 goes… I guess just play better? We had two eagle putts and Dylan just about poured in this BOMB. Camera makes it look closer than it was. Probably a good 40+ feet with about 10 feet of break.
Looking forward to NSS3!
During the second round I forgot the rules of golf for a hot second and tried to call @anon47037505 out on an illegal drop. He let me have it. @earlsmithiii had a look on his face that said he was absolutely terrified we were about to throw hands.
What about those people that played safe and then dunked their third, do they have to turn in their towel? Ugh asking for a friend…
A different view of the same putt, giving you the sheer breadth (in case you forgot already!) of the green on 16. Incredible putt by @LernhardBanger
Did I say 40+ feet? More like 60+ feet!
@kirkeide1 @CinderellaStory ans @Icarito_Jr can vouch I had a very similar putt that I managed to putt off the green…
(I’m lucky there is no video of that )
It was a textbook de-green. We said get it down in 2 putts and as far as the stats are concerned that’s exactly what you did!
FIR, GIR, 2 putt, double bogey.

Not sure what’s cooler, the fact that I actually hit a par 5 in two or the fact that I didn’t completely fuck it up when being filmed. Either way, cheers to you dudes for some great camera work @Billy_Baroo @anon24718094
Played Superior National up in Lutsen today, and need to reluctantly defend my archnemesis @BaxterMSP against many of his Minnesota brethren. This place is SWEET; a true treasure of a muni in an area that must have a year-round population of about 500. Fun up and down routing with a variety of hole types and shapes (maybe a bit of a dogleg left bias, but we need more of those), several short par 4s and 5s that give plenty of options depending on tee box choice, and some really cool greens, most of which break toward the Lake, much like at Northland. And the conditioning here was EXCELLENT. Firm fairways and greens that bounce and roll, while still having grass where there’s supposed to be grass.
Maybe my favorite was #13. A reachable dogleg left par 5 for most players if you cut the corner, but if you do so, you’d better be prepared to navigate a sole doubletree near the corner (s/o @Randy). And the. Your approach is into a triple-tiered, sneaky-fast green with bunkers left, but a lane giving the option to run it up. Just an awesome hole.
I’d play this course again and again.
Really liking how the NSS 2021 pin flag is slightly, but still quite noticeably, larger than the Duel at the Alamo flag and the NIT flag.
Subtle flex by @BaxterMSP as to his view on the hierarchy of things. Kind of like flying the US flag on top.
I posted this in the MN thread but I’ll make a double post exception for all you lazy ass MN haters of Superior National:
I’m glad you enjoyed it, it’s a beautiful area. I look forward to your accompanying review of The Quarry at Giant’s Ridge.
So it’s even better than I ordered. They sent a fucking full button up and it doesn’t have any top button. So it’s a full party shirt. But of course it shows up the Monday after. God dammit.
Is it worth skipping a round at Northland to play?
