I think if you are in, you are in. No need to bow out. Sounds like lots of people want you there, no reason to exclude yourself

You can play, you just can’t qualify for the NIT is how I interpreted it (same as it is currently).

I don’t think there is any need to bow out.
If an organizer wants to make an event NIT adjacent to get some qualifying spots than that organizer has to be a NEST member.
If someone wins a qualifying spot and actually wants to go to the NIT than that person needs to be or join the NEST.
There are no restrictions on actually playing in an event as a non-NEST member.
