Where are you specifically? “The Southeast” is, um, kinda large.
That’s likely my plan. How long is it? Chattanooga is a great course, but didn’t fit my game last time (read: I played like shit so I now don’t like the course).
My tentative schedule is:
Tennessee State Open - GreyStone GC
Tennessee Match Play - Lookout Mountain GC (@tedscott hopefully caddying)
Tennessee Four Ball - Fox Den CC (still need a partner…)
Tennessee State Am - Hillwood CC
Tennessee Mid Am - TPC Southwind (maybe on this one because Memphis is a LONG way away)
US Am Qualifier - Camargo (trying to secure @LJP as my caddy)
US Mid Am Qualifier - Biltmore Forest CC
And then a smattering of local events - Holston Hills, Green Meadow, GKA, County Am, etc.
My local US Am qualifier is at Dallas National. I’ll gladly pay any amount to get a practice round and 36 holes out there. Have no expectations of qualifying, but very likely I’ll never get the chance to play there again.
Its like a 6900 yard par 70 ross course. So good. Layout and views are phenomenal. Its scorable too. Shot 68 pretty casually when i played it without a caddy or anything. I’ve got a yardage book with notes I’d be more than happy to send you
Florida is likely LOADED with local events. Play in everything you can. The more tournaments you get into, the better. You won’t be able to get into the large, regional events (e.g. Palmetto Am, North South, etc.) but there’s still plenty to cut your teeth with.
A word of advice - play as many 36 hole (or more) events as you can. 18 hole shootouts are fun, but you never really learn the discipline of tournament golf until you’re in stuff that either has a cut or at least has two rounds.
Anybody here know anything about either Long Cove in Hilton Head or Duke University as tournament courses? Trying to determine where to do US Open locals, know a little about Duke but nothing about Long Cove other than its a Dye track.
The mom of a guy I know from college is pretty high up in groundskeeping there. Should I reach out to try and get you on? He sent me a Duke GC polo as a thank you for professional advice / networking recently.
(Also, I’d bet a lot that someone else on here - NC thread or smth - can get you on easier than my contact.)
