2025 Amateur Tournaments - Tis the Season

Oh yes indeed. I’ve never played in one but have a couple buddies that like the one day/Sunday format.

Won my flight there 3 years ago. One of the best/coolest experiences I’ve ever had playing golf. Now, was I in the right flight for my handicap…hmm, but still had to win 5 matches and wasn’t playing well until match play started. It’s tough to shake off the rust in February/March in SF. Lincoln is always a quagmire and they always play everything down. Good luck!

I think my biggest deterrent to playing in any competitive events is that I don’t know the rules down to a T.

What’s the best way to learn the proper rulings needed in tournament format? Just literally started reading the rule book over and over again?

Here is the site list for US Amateur qualifiers. Looks like registration opens up “Spring 2020”

Do a little study up on the rule book. That should suffice. Once you’re in a tournament either you’re playing partners or maybe a marshal or official will be hanging around. After that just use rule 3-3 and play two balls if you aren’t sure.

Don’t let a fear of lack of rules knowledge prevent you from competing.

Qualifier location list for the US Mid-Amateur. @Soly @VelvetSteve

My local site, Oakdale Cc, I have good memories at. But the Valley Club, a MacKenzie bucket list course of mine, is four Short hours away. Conflicted.

It’s also helpful to know the rules well because IMO rules officials don’t know the rules as well as they think they do. I also swear old rules officials love telling people theyre screwed.

Probably half the field at us am qual at Camargo

Any of you mid am guys that can go to biltmore forest for that Q. Do it. Played that course once and it was insanely good.

Posting this just for reference. I think the NorCal golf association tournament circuit is the strongest in the country in terms of quality of play and good courses. Here is what our tournament season looks like. Obviously a strong presence at Poppy Hills since the NCGA owns the course.

The third column indicates qualifying dates for that tourney. So those you can’t just sign up and go.

Also, not listed is the State Amateur, which is at Torrey Pines this year.

@aannddyy00 did I see your club on the Mid-Am qualifier list? Will you be playing?

Yep.

I will if I’m playing well.

Same site as 2019 where I missed by one for me. However I have a huge trade show I must attend the week of the tournament. If I qualify I will still play the two stroke play rounds and then WD. That would be epically painful to do, it I won’t have a choice.

Mid am qual sites are bad for me. Closest one is 4 hours (from western NY). Pretty disappointing

Never heard of any of the Florida locations outside of Amelia.

I was hoping for something like Mission Inn that people either love or hate to give me some confidence going into it since I adore that place and it fits my game and eye.

Lesson tomorrow, find out how crazy I am after that and the fitting.

I’m stoked to finally be old enough to play in mid-am events, on my qualifying docket for the year:

Mass. Open - Maybe (Kernwood)
Mass. Amateur - Definitely (Hyannisport Club unless one of the TBD locations is more enticing)
US Amateur - Maybe (Longmeadow CC)
Mass. Mid-Am - Definitely (TBD)
US Mid-Am - Definitely (The Ranch pending TBD location)

I’m also super tempted to try for the US Open just to go play Eastward Ho again…
