2025 Amateur Tournaments - Tis the Season

If you’re not truly experiencing an injury or there is a true personal emergency happening, WD’ing or NC’ing from an event is the most weak ass, chickenshit thing a person can do in a tournament.

Post a fucking score.

played in a mid-am qualifier a few years back with a guy that used to play mini tours. He shot 83 and we traded cards and then he just walked to his car. was the most cowardly move i’ve ever seen

Actually going through the trouble to finish then walking off is so much worse than just leaving in the middle lmao.

I respect the guy posting 90 way more than the good players that are too scared to post something in the 80’s. It’s a BIG tell for me.

I’m good for like 3 or 4 84’s a year, every year, without a doubt.

At least one of these in a QCH event!

Ok, well the super tilt event doesn’t count. That was strategy!

A few of you asked me last year to post a reminder in late spring. My home club will be hosting the 62nd annual Blue Ridge Invitational August 15-17. Tournament entry fee includes a catered dinner Friday and Saturday nights, free drinks, and a plus-1 for the dinners. Saturday night is always the best party of the year in this area.

Awesome tournament with a rich history. Exceptional field every single year. I’d love to see a Refugee knock Brad off his throne.

I NC’d once at an event when I got a call as I was walking to scoring from my now MIL that my wife was going to the ER. Told my group I was leaving, why, and handed them the card. Got a message from the tournament chair checking to see how things were an asking if there was anything I needed. The days of that happening are probably gone because of electronic scoring now.

That’s an acceptable NC. But when people NC because they don’t want their score put on a scoreboard, that’s cowardice.

I’ve turned in a 92 before. Who cares? Tournament golf is hard sometimes. Sometimes you don’t have it. Nobody but me going to remember I went 92-66 that event.

Yeah - but what did you shoot on the back nine?

For the guys/gals that play a lot of tournaments, do you purchase yardage books ahead of time or use an app on your phone? Is the phone frowned upon? If not I feel like Straka Line app is the way to go.

I purchase StrakaLine books for events I feel are important enough to use one. They’re quite good.

I use the Golfshot GPS app at all my Michigan tournaments - Its legal as long as it doesnt have slope or wind speed, or green slopes - which is does not.

Careful using the Strackaline app. There’s a function on the green maps where you can locate the hole and your ball, and it will tell you the adjusted speed and read.

That’s fine for casual play, but illegal in any competitive event.

Decade books are what I tend to use since I can make notes in them. I also will screen cap strackaline maps, then crop/cut/paste them into the decade book. Works well but is admittedly time consuming.

Golf’s 5th major this weekend and my first “real” tournament of the season. Two days then a cut to 40 after Sunday. Game feels good, new Titleist equipment is performing well and the kid has found some #speed (and an extra 15 lbs) since last season. Will be good to see how the game is stacking up against the kids. Good vibes here……last time I played here I got paired with a young knob named Bryson Dechambeau and beat him. Basic goal: make cut. Top line goal: top 10.

One of my majors is this weekend. This is my Masters and I’m starting to look like Harris English - just can’t do better than T12. There are whispers if its ever gonna happen? Can he even Top 5?

I’ve got Randy declaring me dead, its never gonna happen. My wife Kelly is firing up the block party knowing full damn well this is gonna be sadness drinking.

My fans are wondering which hole it is that I’m gonna implode on. Maybe I’ll dump a wedge into the creek on 13 at MCC like Rory? Only time will tell but I’m gonna compete with a full heart & tons of grit. Lets get after it :handshake:

2nd for the StrackaLine books. I’ve got a pile of about 40 of them at this point.
