This might be the smartest thing you’ve ever written on here.
I do. After the first six but still
and IPA’s taste like bougie garbage water.
Different strokes. Different folks.
that’s true, we drink High Life’s instead
White Pepsi’s are my shit
Any significant others planning to tag along in KC? My wife is considering making the trip but is uncertain about spectating at a fake internet tournament on an unfinished pitch and putt
Exactly - people who don’t want to drink macro lagers have options now.
My wife is still trying to figure out her schedule for that weekend with her marathon training group. If she is free, she’ll make the trip up.
Is this the wokest of takes or the worst of takes?
No worries, no one else can fly there directly either. ![]()
Think that counts as task not vacation
It has [standard cooking ingredient] IPA and [mythical creature] Stout. They’re edgy…
We moved to Denver from Oklahoma in 2020. There’s a good chance she will be team Supercell
Same dawg.
I understand the travel and cost being difficult from some areas and that’s fair. But I took one of my favorite golf trips of all time to Cincinnati (it did not include Moraine) and I left more rejuvenated and excited about golf than ever.
I thought it was really refreshing to not hear about this event being at one of the same 5-10 golf resorts/destinations that we see on everyone’s Instagram from the same camera angles, raving about the same putting course, vibe, playability and cookies or whatever other snack is their signature.
I’d rather go to KC for something random like this than Streamsong, Pinehurst (resort only) or Sand Valley. I’m burned out on the same experience with a few tweaks and poor attention to details.
Florida’s lack of income tax sounds great
Wow…you wondering the same can’t be good.
Part of the reason I’m burned out on these places is just setting foot on property seems to cost $1000, I’d much rather go somewhere else enjoy my time, not feel like a part of the machine, actually take a breath and enjoy the golf.
- Can confirm no state income tax is great, just need to figure out how to make more money so I can really tell the difference and do cool stuff like buy yachts and 3rd homes.
Having done multiple loops with Ben at BCN, and having played Swope this time of year, both of these courses will be great spots to have this, and the temp should be ideal golf temps. I say this as someone whose Roost got demolished in regional competition and is bummed to miss out.
Appreciate the feedback et al on the location of the Club Championship. Here is a little background.
What is the Roost Club Championship:
An opportunity to celebrate the folks who have invested their time and energy into meeting up and playing competitive golf with folks in their area on a global scale. Yes - it is about competitive golf and crowing a champion first and foremost. However, we want to make this a celebration and a real opportunity for people from across the US and Canada (miss you GB&I) to all be in the same place with each other. The best part of NLU events/NIT/NIT qualifiers etc. is the hang. We want to turn that to 1000.
Why Kansas City:
First things first, we felt KC is just about as centrally located as anywhere in the US. All major airports should have a direct. There are ~8 roosts that can reasonably drive to KC. This was a big point when planning because this time last year, COVID was very much a thing and we wanted to give as many people as possible the opportunity to drive if they felt uncomfortable flying.
Welcome party and additional golf:
Kicking things off with drinks, apps and a contest on a 12 hole Himalayas-style putting course. Additional golf at top private course(s) in the area if folks so choose.
Swope:
Much like the NIT, value was a huge consideration. Last thing we wanted to do (especially in year 1) is to have big monetary barriers for those that qualified and can’t swing a $1,500 golf trip + travel (Sand Valley, Prairie Club etc. all in the running but they either couldn’t host us or the cost was very high). We understand there is still a massive monetary commitment for this as it sits, but wanted to do whatever we could to have a true celebration at a great value. Swope is a golden age muni (Tillinghast) that I am confident most folks will greatly enjoy. We also rented the entire course for only 40 people to play.
BCN:
This was not my idea first and foremost. When we evaluate NLU events at large, it is important that we share the places we have made content at with the NLU community - not just because of the content piece but because we make content at places we feel are special and worth sharing (swope/BCN fall in this bucket). Frankly, I am pumped to have a full day at BCN with all the qualifiers. Matches will be intense with a heckle deck that looks over the entire course. Food trucks rolling in, beers in coolers all over the course, Pres cup on the TV, yard games and really fun golf shots. Just because I feel the urge to stand up for BCN - I will leave it with this. @Soly - “Once I started playing and got used to the greens, I forgot any other form of golf exists. It was so much fun.”
Kansas City:
Sure it isn’t a major city, but it is very tough to be in any major city and be able to do what we will be able to do at the cost. Folks are staying right in the heart of the city with bars, food etc. all in walking distance. We will all be piling into a bus to get to and from the golf which is a fun way to celebrate being together, allowing folks to send it if they chose and leans into the high school/college golf concept. Again, this is supposed to be a celebration. @Tron has been here twice and has left positively surprised and raving about the downtown scene and the food. I think many will be pleasantly surprised.
Airport:
You are flying in and out of the airport. It isn’t a place to hang. They do a fantastic job of what it is there for - traveling. Get there 45 mins before you take off, check your bags and get on the plane. Its also 20 mins to the hotel.
All of this for $400. I am confident the event will over-deliver.
Appreciate the notes and looking forward to re-evaluating for the 2022-2023 season championship. See y’all in KC!
