2024 Refuge Roosts: Local Clubs & Club Championship Outline

Does PINZ have similar capabilities to Golfgenius or Bluegolf? It’s something to consider for NLU to purchase the license for one of them and use it for all chapters. Not too familiar with PINZ so I’m unsure if it suits the needs.

Would be interested in getting Louisville\Kentucky going, or helping out if someone else wanted to run it. Not sure if the numbers around Kentucky are enough, so I could see us joining up with Tennessee/Nashville, or Cincinnati. I’m in one way or the other, but willing to throw my services to be used.

We have everything in scale from central Maryland to all of fucking Canada in play as Roosts.

Mid-Tex is gathering speed. We’ve got a name, and the first ~10 or so commits. Submission coming shortly.

Btw, Texas is at a severe disadvantage here with the three major metro areas spaced ~3ish hours apart. Too far to easily joint under one roost, but with enough people in each to perhaps justify 3 roosts, which isn’t likely to fit with the year-1 plans.

San Antonio and Austin already maintain a strong alliance (and NLU Pine Dunes cup 2021 victory). I understand Dallas is building their own momentum. I’m authorized at this time to invite Houston to align with Austin for STexas roost purposes. The lines of communication are open.

I love this energy and love the city of Boston, but I am much more a New York, CT guy than MA… I eat my lobster rolls hot with butter and I am not sorry about it.

As a former Community Organizer and someone who has met some new golfing buddies through The Nest this year, I support this great idea 100%.

This seems like a good way to organize it for now based on numbers.

If you’re in DFW or an area of North Texas that would make our group an easier fit/drive time to meetup, our DFW group typically communicates here. Please come on in and introduce yourself if you haven’t already.

We are still discussing logo, name, and some other ideas as well, but have a good structure in place already for casual meetups, events, and season competitions. We can get you looped in if you’re interested.

Also, if you want to join our season competition, we can get you signed up and plugged in. We’ll flex the current deadlines to accommodate post-Roost newcomers.

Throwing this sheet out for those in AL, AR, LA, and MS who are interested. The concentration of nest members isn’t very high down here, but if we are able to get a critical mass in a geographical area that is less than 8 hrs away I would be very interested in making it happen.

Maybe there’s a model with closer knit Divisions inside of the Roost. Open to any and all ideas.

Haha, RACDG feels as though it is different. I’m interested to see how they intermingle, or alternatively stay seperate….that’s the bit that’s missing.

Also, being across a wide ocean, it sometimes can feel very isolated from everything that goes on.

So as I say, will sit and wait.

I am new to Nest world but eager to be neck deep in it. I’m an avid golfer in North Jersey (SOMA area) and looking to connect with other members to join/start a Roost - whether here in NJ or the NYC Metro area. DM me if you’re near and want to connect.

Looking forward to it!

Just want to be super clear here. Think there are a few easy examples popping up of geographically dispersed areas where people still want to get involved.

In year one, there are going to be roosts that are dispersed 8+ hours from each other. Just the nature of it. But that’s totally fine.

Here’s an example of how that could work. There can be smaller groups in more centrally located areas that play in their “pod” to qualify out and play a champ of another pod in a central location 2-3 hours away (looking at you, Texas). Step repeat until there is 4 folks who will represent the roost. Or you can play a match virtually if you get out of the local pod. Not ideal but that tool is there!

Regardless, we want these lesser robust areas to get involved in a roost and start growing at a local level. Then next year, that bird can grow wings and fly to their own roost and compete there.

We want RACDG groups to get involved if they do choose. Certainly isn’t an either or. Just want to arm those chapters with more tools and make it more robust if said captains feel we can add that.

Stoked about this concept! I’m new, so not super connected yet but would love look at joining an Ohio Valley/Kentucky/etc. roost!

I had questions about that too since I’m guessing the plan so far is for the RACDG groups in California to get involved.

Is the hope that some of the RACDG members in a section (especially those that are already nest members) are interested in starting a roost club basically inside of / adjacent to their RACDG club as a means of getting started? More like “adding some roost events to the RACDG group” than Captain Phillips style “look at me…you are a roost now”

Tbh I really don’t know how the RACDG sections are run so this question might be misplaced
