Terrible timing with the Women’s Open
When can we start asking the question if @Randy actually lives in Denver?
Probably need to camp out at Casa Bonita for a month or two. If he no shows there, you may have your answer.
Agree, I like the GVR course (also not a huge architecture guy, but I’ve had fun there the last couple of years).
Ha, similarly, I hit the best cut 6-iron of my life (as someone who normally plays a draw) around the tree on 16 last year, so it’s possible that helped me block out how bad the hole is.
This is the way. If you’re staying in Denver and just looking for a fun walk, City Park is great for that and has elite views from the clubhouse patio. Course isn’t gonna blow you away.
If anyone is in the Parker area early and interested in playing at Pinery or Pradera (despite being private, tee times can be an issue at Pradera, one of my many frustrations), I likely will be at one or the other on Friday afternoon. Can’t get any closer to CGC than the Pinery (about 1000yards to the south), and Pradera is right across the street, so they offer a good place to dial in yardages for sea-level folks.
Should add the one caveat is that Wednesday (8/21) is my wife’s birthday, and she hasn’t totally figured out what she wants to do to celebrate yet, but as long as it doesn’t involve leaving town for the weekend, I will be there on Friday.
This is awesome, @pietila arrive in Denver around 12:36, Friday afternoon, from Seattle nonstop, should be able to make an afternoon tee time, so count me in. Unless you think it’s too late. Not sure where I’m staying yet, most likely around Parker.
Sweet. It’s about an hour from the airport (and our airport is not always the fastest to get out of), so it might be a little tight, but if you don’t mind missing a couple holes and catching up if you’re delayed, it could work.
Khruangbin playing Red Rocks the Tuesday after CGC. Might have to make this a week long stay in Denver.
For the uninitiated:
LOVE Spring Valley. Truly has off the chart home made vibes and some of those back nine holes are awesome. The land that course is on is across the road from the ranch my family used to own, where my grandma grew up. Back in the day when Denver was like a full day’s trip away. Of course now there’s a subdivision on the old ranch and Elizabeth is basically a suburb. What a world.
Vibes in the truest sense of the word with this
I’m excited they did a bunch of work to help with the flooding issues over the winter. Both times I’ve played it the walk has been a little difficult in spots because of standing water, but it’s a great place.
Would like to join Springdog in this as well. Pending an open spot.
Pros:
- Positive Attitude
- Improving game
Cons
- Clubhouse windows are a liability
Sure thing! Assuming I can play, first come/first serve are welcome – I’m not picky about how you play. You should be good on the clubhouse windows – it’s well behind the first tee and so I think it’s physically impossible to hit them. Many holes have reachable houses, but I don’t live in the neighborhood so it doesn’t bother me.
would also be willing to round out the foursome, unless it has been claimed otherwise (as I likely will be tagging along with @RyMo and @Springdog74 mostly everywhere).
Very excited to see how to course develops. New owners really seem to care about investing in the place.
You got it – will keep you guys posted when we get a little closer.
Went ahead and made a little spreadsheet that will hopefully be a little helpful to everyone in case people are like me and don’t have much in the way of a non-refuge connection with anyone going. Feel free to put down on when you wanna get some extra golf in, where you wanna play etc. And Denver locals feel free to put your info down if you feel like hosting some of your favorite internet friends somewhere! Cheers!
