1028: The Many Feuds of Seve Ballesteros

For our second installment of a Golf Feuds episode, we gathered as many stories as we could from the career of Seve Ballesteros and his numerous confrontations with American players during Ryder Cup matches, PGA and Euro tour officials, and various media members.

Not an enraged European you’ll be disappointed to hear but it’s not your finest work just lampooning him and slanting all the arguments from the other sides perspective.
You have a huge audience and it’s disappointing that you just treat him as a figure of fun so many may not realise how much influence he had around the world.
Maybe you could offset this by doing a more rounded piece that also shows good bad and the ugly rather than purely the latter two.

Well, the pod title is kind of self explanatory. And Soly gives a good introduction explaining your very complaint.

I enjoyed KVV’s Seve, which very much sounded like Triump the Insult Comic Dog. “Ehhhh Paul Azinger is a very worthy opponent…FOR ME TO POOP ON!”

Europeans can’t ever shut up about how great Seve was. It’s nice to hear the other side for once.

I give your first post an A+

He has a point.

Soly recounts three stories of American golfers playing Ryder Cup matches who, at worst, actively cheat and, at best, are completely ignorant of the rules and cost themselves holes/the match. Not “Seve feuds” so much as Soly unquestioningly parroting Zinger et als (incorrect) side of the story.

Also, the KVV “comedy impression” bit needs to end. Quite apart from the complicated dynamics of mocking someone’s accent in their second language for laughs, it doesn’t add anything to the storytelling in this pod.

The “accents/impressions” are fine as an off-the-cuff joke on a live show; but, seem very cheap when a planned bit on a narrative pod, and an unnecessary distraction from an otherwise engaging story.

Might be the douchiest thing in the golf influencer world and that’s saying something

There’s people from both sides of the pond, rules officials of both tours that all have instances saying you’re a dick; maybe, just maybe you are.

“If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you’re the asshole.”

Nailed it.

Dude was an IMMENSE talent.

Was also an IMMENSE asshole.

I mean Christ, next to no one liked this dude. Gonna happen when you shit on Augusta National, both tours, most players, your caddy, rules officials…imagine how good he would have been had he not wasted so much energy picking fights with/ being a dick to everyone he came across.

Narcissist to the Nth degree. Guy makes Bryson look like Steve Stricker in comparison.

Tiger?

And yet a nation of golf fans lionise him the way others in other nations lionise Seve.

Sounds like the pod cast was rather contentious like Seve. Guess I’ll give it a listen then.

Seve would’ve been a menace on YouTube

Him and Zinger going at it on Twitter would have been electric.

Can we give it a rest with the whole impressions bad thing? He LITERALLY told you not to listen if it’s not for you. Once again proving you can lead a horse to water…

The Gary Player song is also incredible and a gift that hits every time.

This podcast made me realize how little I know about Seve other than the major beats.

Any good books (or documentaries) about him?
