Whoop Band | NLU Group Code: COMM-NLUNLU

Whatever The Red is, I’m fulling expecting to be there at the outset. Even with a regular workout routine, I can actively feel that I’m not recovering well and sleeping poorly. That’s why I took the plunge.

Can’t wait to Enter the Whoop-Gang

Waking up in the red basically means your body isn’t fully recovered and WHOOP will recommend a rest day. Recovery is generated by multiple data points and is based on a percentage scale:

Red - 1%-33%
Yellow - 34%-66%
Green - 67%-99%

So whenever you wake up with a green recovery, you can pretty much push your workouts hard to build up a lot of strain.

Red - take it easy
Yellow - good to go
Green - let it buck, big boy

Pretty much my views.

Green - go do you big boi
Yellow - workout as normal
Red - active recovery/rest day

And if you really need to build up strain then just ride around in a golf cart while drinking beer for 18 holes. Whoop things this is the equivalent of the Tour De France.

I built up the same strain last fall when I rode in a cart at Payne’s Valley and walked Ozarks National the next day. Just doesn’t make sense.

I think maybe Whoop sucks.

Their algorithm is just a thinly veiled random number generator.

Ozarks ain’t an easy walk either. Pro shop guys kinda thought I was nuts.

Definitely has some hills to manage, but at least the green-to-tee walks between holes were close.

I know a lot of it has to do with external factors, weather humidity etc. I ran a 5k during a heat advisory over the summer and strain score was 18-19. Ran a 5k last week in 40*. 10 strain score.

The WHOOP and the band on the wrist picks up activity when it shouldn’t. I took a mild walk with my dog the other day but he was yanking on the leash on my left hand. It gave me about as much strain as a 15 minute bike ride. I don’t know why it doesn’t focus on heart beat. The same thing happens with the impact of your golf club on a ball. Using the bicep band, which I just don’t like wearing nearly as much, provides a much truer strain count. Most of my exercise is on the stationary bike so for me it doesn’t matter except for golf.

Drank three 10% beers last night (shout out Bell’s HopSlam) and just looked at my data… holy shit Guis… alcohol is really bad for your health. HRV dropped 30 and RHR up 15.

Having Whoop for just over a week i think I’d compare it to the Angel and Devil on your shoulder. Whoop obvi the Angel that talks me into better decision making. Seeing the data will definitely impact my lifestyle…i think.

I think I set a comically low baseline through November and December, so maybe that has something to do with it.

One of my goals for this month was to average 65% recovery, so I’ve been practicing some healthier habits. Who knew that drinking lots of water, sleeping more, and mostly avoiding booze is good for you?

Can I interest you in a child? She’s small, about 9 months old. Had potential. Hates sleeping through the night.

Just got off the midnight shift and can’t wait to see how the difference in sleep effects my recovery and whoop stats. Have a feeling it’s going to be night and day going from routinely in the yellow and red

Aight, strap arrived yesterday, and I’m officially in our Whoop-a-Loop Group. Still figuring out how it all works.
