Where did you play this week? (Part 2)

Played the Cascades course at the Omni in Homestead where the great dual between KVV and DJ took place.

For anyone in the area, I walked for only $67 as a local from an adjacent county. Value off the charts!

I was very fortunate to be able to get out to the opening day at Broomsedge. Despite a half-dozen hosel rockets on the first 2 holes, I managed to pull myself together and play some actual fun golf on a brand new course. The first four holes are quite long, even from the white tees. However, I really enjoyed the rest of the course and thought the routing and elevation made for a fun and challenging course.

I hope these pics are ok. I barely have a pulse at my desk after all of the driving the last few days.

Kind of a cool story about this course and maybe old news to those in that area of the world but I was just reading about the other day on Golf.com:

Were you there for the Holy Cross Invitational? I thought that was there yesterday.

No, I was not. We were out there on the day where the teams were playing practice rounds, we went out about an hour before all of the college teams.

Would love to know more about what you thought of it. I’ve been following this development for a while. It’s 30 minutes from where I grew up and where my parents live now. If my Dad wasn’t a member at the golf club in his neighborhood (where we play whenever I go there), I would have thought hard about a national membership at Broomsedge.

I really had a great time out there once I found my groove. The greens were rolling really slowly for such a new course but they’ll obviously get that dialed in over time. I had a blast on the back nine and honestly holes 6-18 are great. 1-5 are still pretty good but I was a bit lost when I played them.

The members and staff were all cool and welcoming. It was a really fun experience and we were super lucky Andy and Will from TFE set this up.

The flagsticks (and logo) at Broomsedge are fucking sick. Need to play it and rock that merch ASAP.

The 3 new courses in SC all nailed their logo.

They’re awesome.

Downside: no help with wind and no pin flags to buy in the shop when it gets up and running

Waveland GC

The 1st course ever on Strapped (while @MerchCzar was trapped in MPLS) and home of the world famous GPGC Major THE BUTTER COW every August.

Waveland is the epitome of Iowa munis. Hilly, quirky, great older clubhouse, loudspeaker blurting out tee times, old oaks, cold beers and a mirror to see groups ahead over the hilly terrain. The oldest muni west of the Mississippi River. It also has an old observatory in the middle adding to the charm. Walking is tough but sometimes necessary on weekends due to slow pace of play. A lot of unnecessary trees have been removed by mother nature opening things up. Small greens with some steep slopes keep you honest on a shorter course. I think it could be a really special place with a little $$ and bunker reno.

Going to miss the October flags. Good cause and they look great.

Tough to get much better than the setting sun on a late October 79 degree day in Michigan.

Taken from between the 18th tee and 17th landing zone.

Pinehurst No3. What a fucking gem that was.

Ocean Forest is a tough test. According to them, they have the only two holes in Georgia on the Atlantic Ocean (I didn’t fact check this). Hosted the Walker Cup.

Got out to one of my favorite local spots today. Oakland university R&S Scharf. Really up north-y feel to the course, and just fun as hell. They had the fairways largely clean of leaves which was great, and the greens were pure and fast as fuck for being this late in the season.

Was a bit loose and went 51/42 for one of the more ridiculous cards I’ve had

I knew all week I was heading over Saturday to SF/Olympic Club for breakfast and a quick loop on the Cliffs Course with my dude @fabian_20. What I didn’t know until morning of, was we’d be joined by @LukeBoatright and his Dad as they wrapped up their tour of Northern California.

A special morning under perfect weather. Luke’s Dad put us on the speed bag.

Summary of a fun long weekend down in the Carolina’s. A broken finger in the summer prohibited me from golfing at a Forest Dunes trip in Michigan. Took those reserved funds and went on a solo trip.

Day 1: World Tour Golf Links. Where the strapped boys played in Myrtle. 18 replica holes. Some very good. Some very bad. Fun for sure and worth playing once.

Day 2: was fortunate to call and get on Pinehurst No.3 for a morning loop. A gem of a course. Greens were very small but very Donald Ross. Lunch at Wedgies, pitstop at the golf pride HQ, and then an afternoon loop around El Camino at Tobacco.

Day 3: Southern Pines in the morning playing with an Pinehurst Caddy I had on No2 a couple years back and then an afternoon spin around Pine Needles. Sadly midpines was hosting a tournament all weekend so I could not play there. I preferred southern by a pretty significant margin.
