Where did you play this week? (Part 2)

Jeffie fired a smooth even par 72. Strong.

Not an occasion round since this is my home club, but this Saturday’s round was special as it was the last day the membership could play (and last day of enjoying the TIO) before hosting the Meijer LPGA Classic here at Blythefield CC in Grand Rapids, MI.

No, my club won’t show up on any top 100 lists, but I’m proud to be part of this 1928 Langford & Moreau track that promotes the women’s game and has one of the highest non-major purses of the year!

It’s hard competing with the US Open, but try to find some time to check out our tournament this week!

I have family that are members here, and it is always a treat to get out and play. Usually only once or twice a year, but to me that’s what makes it special! In my opinion, best course in town.

Bias aside, I completely agree with you. Good walk with a balance of difficulty and fun. Reach out next time you make it this way!

Will do!

I’ve barely played any new (to me) courses so far this year, which is unusual. Nearly all of my golf has been at the home course, which has been great in many ways, but I’ve been itching to get back out there. So, it was particularly fun to visit and play Grandfather G&CC in Linville, NC recently. It’s the best of many fine Ellis Maples designs, a totally walkable mountain course, thanks to an excellent routing, with close green to tee proximity throughout. Lots of strategy and variety, and clearly a beautiful setting. Very thankful for the opportunity to play here.

This green and it’s surrounding area is SICK!

Got the chance to play Ballybunion while in Ireland for an anniversary trip with my wife. I tried to get the full experience and got a caddie (shoutout to Mike) which was fun and super helpful.

Played some vacation golf last week. Last played in 2000 and couldn’t wait to come back and chip 9 irons from 85 yards into the wind. What a ride.

I’ll be out there tomorrow with my wife and a fellow Nest member @David_is_Goliath on Friday. Then Saturday I’ll be there with my wife and 2 daughters. I believe this our 5th or 6th year of attending the event. So cool to watch the women play.

Can confirm that Chambers Bay does, in fact, fuq.

Jeffersonville (new routing this year: 17, 18, 10, 11, 1-10, 13-16) near Philadelphia.

Really, really enjoyable round. Good greens. Putted with my 60° because I forgot my putter at home. Gained 1.06 strokes to the Tour player average with the “putter.”

Hit some shots as i was playing fill in greenskeeper for my buddy who maintains this backyard par 3 outside of Columbus, OH. CC quality green with 2 bunkers a couple chipping areas and 9 tee boxes spread out across the property. Can play as little as 90 yds and as much as 210. The owner is living the c-suite dream

Played Northview Ridge this morning: it’s a once a year play because while it’s probably the best conditioned public course in Vancouver it kinda stinks.

Used to be a PGA Tour Venue (Brandel won here… loses points for that alone)

And definitely has some fun holes

But also has quite possibly the dumbest finishing hole ever. It’s a “500” yard par 5 where it’s measured all around the left side. If you take it to the right side of the fairway it plays like 440 but then you have to hit your shot through the giant fountain. So dumb.

First day out at the new home club, Pekin Country Club. Turns out private golf is really nice. Quick round and quiet course.

Shoutout DA Points.

Inniscrone. Yesterday. Not a fan. As much as I liked Jeffersonville I almost disliked this equally.

With the US Open being on West Coast time this year I woke up early and drove a couple of hours to Red Lodge (Montana) to play a new course for me.

The bad:
14 of 18 greens had (what I assume was) extreme winter kill and there was no heads up on the conditions. Only found out when I got to the first green. Enjoyed the course but wouldn’t have driven 4.5 hours round trip to play it if I had known the conditions.

The cool:

18 has a dual centerline tree that I thought was well done

Played at Mariner’s Landing on Smith Mountain Lake earlier this week. It’s a RTJ and could definitely be a bear from the tips—we played one up at 6500 and had fun. Apparently it’s been in rough shape but money has been pumped in since new owners took over in 2020. Greens were really good and bunkers were good. Tees and fairways need another year or two of rehab and growing.

Classic 1990s layout—lots of forced carries, all or nothing shots, and pure cart layout. I will say this—great mix of holes. Par 4s from drivable to monster. Par 5s that are honest three shotters in different ways, and some good par 3s.

Edit: if you’re in that area and want to play, the twighlight rate of $36 is the way to go.
