Literally all I wanted to do was hit a good shot into there on one of the two loops and it didn’t happen. First time was a weak push off to the right into the shit. Second loop I hit a great drive and had a wedge in, bladed the shit out of it and watched it run up and over the green long left…
Fuck this hole. But this hole is awesome as well.
Such a sick hole and green complex. I absolutely love the place and first went in 2020 with my dad as I was just getting more curious about cool golf courses. Such a cool spot and great write up capturing what makes it awesome @camgriff2.
Have the Wisconsin boys ever done an event there? I would be very interested in taking over the course for a day and just looping it a ton.
Nope but Chicago has. Wisconsin doesn’t realize how nice of a place they have up there (don’t look at their roost schedule)
I am an idiot
Eagle springs is awesome. @BeenMacKenzied and I played it on the way to the Erin hills NLU event in 2023. Hole 4 - the reverse camber dogleg with the crazy green was our favorite hole of the trip. So cool. Hole 1 is cool too.
We are doing an event at Eagle Springs 5/17 - it is replacing our Erin Hills event on the calendar given the USWO this year
Hoping to play Eagle Springs next week and I’m very happy to know that there’s more fun stuff out there than just the first two holes.
Fun ross when you can get out there on a weekday or when its slow. I play in my buddy’s Armenian scramble every summer and its fun. Lots of long tough 4’s
Was able to play (most of) Stoneleigh Golf and CC yesterday in a VSGA 1-day event before getting rained out midway through the back 9. The course has a bunch of elevation, fun greens, and stone walls which are VERY much in play. Photos are all from the 2nd hole with an uphill tee shot followed by an approach with a wedge to an elevated green over a stone wall. I was lucky enough to be playing within someone who didn’t club up enough, ended up short, and got Mutombo’ed by the wall.
I’ll definitely put it in my list to enter next year if I get the chance.
Stonelick Hills last Fri before wedding weekend. Campbell’s Soupy, and they forgot to open the course so our 730 teetime was delayed, but such a strong track
Played Oak Quarry, Stadium Course, and Desert Willows Firecliff this week on a work trip.
Oak Quarry is a beautiful property with great variety of holes. Everything looked great but the greens are super bumpy, short putts are like plinko. And 5.5h round on a Wed afternoon, so straight to jail for the ranger/staff there.
Stadium course was an incredible experience. Great course and paired up with some great randos. Played the whites so not overly long but took the starter’s advice to play to landing areas and was not disappointed. Had a ton of great approach opportunities, and man if you don’t hit a quality iron shot those greens will not hold.
And then finished it off at Fireclif. Really fun course with good variety of holes. The backdrops to many of these greens are really cool for an Ohio guy. My game was shit at this point, 2nd round of the day with temps over 105 was more than I could chew.
Played oak quarry for the first time in 2022. It really is a good layout but i went off solo early on a Saturday morning and ended up talking to a marshal a lot while I waited on tee boxes. He explained to me what it was like there post covid boom and it was like that scene in the big short where the hedge fund guys are talking to loan officers and realize they are bragging instead of confessing. Shocking management. They try to get 240 people through a day and their rates have doubled in the last 5 years
Comporta Dunes looks even better than last year.
Had a bit of a corporate boondoggle and got to go to the big island for work. Played two of the nines at waikoloa my first day because it abuts the hotel at which I stayed: only took one picture because ultimately it was a bit meh but I was a bit pressed for time and golf is golf
Played Mauna Kea the next day. RTJ being RTJ—some real dumb holes but unbelievable views and #3 is one of the best par 3s I’ve ever played. Ultimately I can remember every hole, which is usually a sign (in my personal rubric) of a good course
After my conference, I went to Maui and played the kapalua bay course. I think it gets too much hate because ultimately it is pricey relative to its quality and has a terrible par 5 finisher (which I also 3 jacked for par, adding to my disdain). Luckily my dad and I played in a local skins game so our rate was reduced to about a third of the rack rate. I had played it before so only took 1 picture
Finally, played the Waiehu muni yesterday. Standing in contrast to every other course I have played on the islands, this place is an absolute bargain at $55 with a cart ($33 walking). the entire front 9 is on the water (the surf can sometimes wash over the 6th green. The most memorable hole (for me) is a diabolical par 3 that plays 240 on the card and 20 yards downhill, but winds blow so hard that your guess of actual yardage is a crapshoot (pic 3). It’s not a hard course and I was cruising early but the sh*nks reared their ugly head and ruined everything. I want another crack so badly. If you find yourself in Maui and land early, it’s 15 minutes from the airport. Go play and then head to wherever you’re staying
Lajitas Golf Resort in Texas. Surprised by how much I loved it. Fun course, great conditions and amazing views
WACUBO Conference?
