Whatcha Reading?

Just ordered the wolf.

Just finished Way of Kings on my re-read and it’s so good the 2nd time through.
Insane amounts of foreshadowing you don’t even realize the first time you go through it. Also nice to be able to skip a lot of the flashbacks that tend to slow the plot down.

Hoping to get through all 4 before the new one drops in December.

I was going to start my re-read last night but realized I don’t have Way of Kings at home. I must’ve given it to someone to read. Now I need to check if the library has it. In the meantime, I started “Spirit of St. Andrews”

I read these too. Corny but good

Finished the second red rising book this weekend, Golden Son. Breakneck pace for basically the entire book and I flew through it in like 4 days. Big ending that makes me want to jump right into the finale of the first trilogy.

I held off though and am now about 50 pages into Empire of Silence. Heard lots of good things, but it’s definitely much slower (not a complaint, yet).

Started Cormacs last novel series, The Passenger. So far very good read.

Cibola Burn finally completed! Through book 4 of 8 in the Expanse series now, I think that one was my least favorite so far. But just started Book 5 last night.

I finished that a few months ago but decided to take a break from the series for a bit. I might get back to it soon. I agree it was my least favorite so far.

Don’t blame you, I will say that the 50 pages into the 5th book and all of the chapters are revolving around the crew of the Roci. So we are finally getting some character depth on Alex, Amos, and Naomi which I’m excited about and should be a great change of pace.

Amos is a great story line in that book if I’m thinking of the right one.

A third of the way into book 3 in NK Jemison’s Inheritance Trilogy, and 30 pages are missing. They didn’t get torn out. They printing just jumps forward in the story and page numbers. Enjoyed the series and I’ll probably go find what I missed and finish it up, but it was disheartening. I also paid $3 for the it on ThriftBooks, so, it is what it is.

Just got done with “The MANIAC”, latest from Benjamin Labatut. “When We Cease to Understand the World” is a top-2 novel for me, so I was crazy excited and think it mostly lived up to my hype. More experimental, don’t think I picked up on everything going on, but it’s very well done. Would recommend to fans of WWCTUTW, and taking the opportunity to plug WWC… to anyone who hasn’t read yet. Made me fall back in love with fiction after a hiatus.

Finished the four book Wax and Wayne series (Quadrilogy?) that followed the original Mistborn trilogy. It was good, I enjoyed my time, but I’d certainly call it weaker than the initial trilogy. The last two books in particular felt like a TV show introducing characters hoping to spin them off. It was tough to keep up with the “outside” actors.

I’ll probably appreciate them more as I read more of the Cosmere books.

Finished The Passenger by Cormac, one of his two last novels. Weird ride, hits a lot of themes one would expect a man who doesn’t have much rubber left on the tire would hit, but ultimately a good read, albeit disjointed at times.

Asks a lot of questions that made me uncomfortable with my own mortality

I hear you on the cameos but I still think the 4th book was the best book from the Mistborn series so far. I think the original trilogy was better on the whole but man that ending to 4 was incredible. Definitely start Sunlit Man, before Winds of Truth comes out. Good story

Sunlit Man was great. I really enjoyed the 3 kickstarter books I read (I skipped the Handbook one for now).

In my attempt to read all the Stormlight Archive books again, I’m starting with Warbreaker, which I never read before, and can’t put it down. Might take me a year before I get to Winds of Truth though.

The 2 kickstarters were really solid but Sunlit man was a step above.

Warbreaker is so good, I think my favorite standalone he did. Quick read too.

Wayne’s character arc is incredible. Such a fun ride.
Haven’t read sunlit man yet. Good to hear nice reviews. Will read. Warbreaker was phenomenal. Re-read Rhythm of War a month or 2 ago on a east coast trip and very excited for the 5th book.

Sunlit Man is just 100mph the entire way, really fun read. Did you reread Words of Radiance or Oathbreaker too or just ROW?

I’ve made it about 5% of the way into Blood Meridian and I can’t figure out what the hell is going on.
