Slow day at work today means the announcement of the 2024 WBC league play!
Welcome all to the 2024 season. As things in the golf world continue to expand, we are trying to shrink the game. With that in mind along with some unprecedented turnover of “membership” from 2023 we are reducing the field size from 12 to 8. Some “mules” may complain, but those complaints will fall on deaf ears. A field size of 8 will help ensure all spots are filled week in and week out. We are also reducing the number of weeks we are going to play. This year we have 21 weeks scheduled from 4/4 to 8/29 with an all star break the week of 7/4 where there will be no league play. Cost of each round will be $26 walking as CPD has raised the marginally raised its rates.
Additionally we are going back to Quota for the season long league play as Tilt was a little too much math/the handicapping of holes at Waveland is not accurate. We will incorporate tilt and other games once every month to change it up scoring wise; more info on that later this year.
With the reduction in weeks played comes to a change in the playoff structure and number of scores counting. To make the playoffs you will have to be in the top 3 quota scorers with the top quota scorer getting a bye to the Race to the Clocktower Championship match. Seeds 2&3 will play in a match on Week 20 (8/22) and play the WBC Quota Champ on 8/29. In order to qualify for the playoffs you must play at least 6 times and only your top 8 scores count so it behooves you to show up as much as possible.
If you got this far good for you. Let’s have some fun announcing the 8ish members of The Waveland Breakast Club
First up we have @ChiFFI a WBC OG who launches drives into Lake Michigan and LSD on his back foot. You can find him first on the tee week in and week out as he hassles around the courses and then hassles down to Indiana
Next up we have team @Ballgame and @tmstrods who are teaming up like MJ and Pippen while Teddy recovers from an Achilles injury and while Ty packs up and heads back to the shanties of New York. My bet is that the gross scoring average of this team never even sniffs 40.
Then we have @TheAbeFroman who maintains a duel membership with WBC and OFCC. Probably the top duel membership in the USA to be honest. He too is an OG breakfast baller who is just here for the vibes and some light competition as the sunrises.
Next there is @Wheel who is only active on the refuge for WBC, which I respect so much more than the guis who are only on here to shit on the yearly nest gift. A race to the clocktower runner up in 2022, don’t count this man out in 2024 as he may be like the SF Giants from 2010-2014 and are only good during even years.
Next we have @Cswartz a true stick who keeps his nose to the grindstone by going for lake front runs post WBC rounds most the year. An Illini alum who can hang with the best of them any day of the week.
We also return @rmbartell who I’ll probably have to text about this post. If WBC had a basketball team he would probably be a first round pick as him and WillyK help raise the average group height by a good foot. A fellow YOTB lifer, you can find him swinging out of his shoes off the tee only to top it 1/10 times. Doesn’t matter though as his stock 60 degree wedge flys 180 yards.
We have our only new member of 2024 @WillyK who beat out Tim in a duel for the last WBC spot. If I had to play in the match I would have been shaking the entire time with the stakes this high. Will cruised to victory 3&2 over Tim which shoes how ice cold he is, probably as iced as he likes his coffee. He and Ryan are coming off dominating the Deck the Ballz event at Waveland in December so there is a lot of talk about Race to the Clocktower Champion around Will. Let’s see if he lives up to the hype.
This post couldn’t not mention @Kbergen28 who beat Ty last fall to claim the crow. A lefty v lefty championship is something I love to see. Kevin politely declined a membership, but I’m sure he is eager to defend his title in 2024.
Finally, we have myself. For those that don’t know me I’m the self appointed WBC Comish and 2023 WBC Champ. Pace of play enthusiast with a knack for numbers and running events, I’ll never where a polo or collared shirt to Waveland out of principal, but I’ll be sure to tinker with 4 putters throughout the year.
That is your 2024 preview! I have linked the google sheet which will be used for scheduling. On the 2024 sub tab, anyone is welcome to claim a spot that is highlighted yellow; follow others and highlight it green. I am in the process of tinkering with the google form in which you input your scores. Also thinking about integrating UKG, but doubtful that gets done this year as based on last year’s review we all love stats and UKG may not be able to deliver all those stats.
