Can’t believe you holed out from the fairway 9 times!
You’re a bad guy
The moment we’ve all been waiting for…welcome to the Waveland Breakfast Club season-long awards show!
First, a minute to discuss our course trends:
Hardest Hole (Relative to Par): Hole 4, +0.95 strokes
Easiest Hole (Relative to Par): Hole 2, +0.33 strokes
No surprises here…I was hoping Hole 4 would eclipse Hole 2 in terms of total stroke average, rendering par completely irrelevant. On the whole, that didn’t work out, but we did have some individuals (myself included) who scored better on Hole 2 for the year than Hole 4, which is #sick.
Individual Awards:
The Tiger Woods Award for Actually Being Good at Golf
Ballgame takes the scoring lead at 38.36 for the year. We play a lot of net stuff, but Teddy takes our gross scoring championship. Also congrats to tmstrods Cswartz teddyPargame, Myself, and TheAbeFroman for joining the sub 40 club. This was a personal goal of mine from the beginning of the year and one I’m actually quite proud of. Also congrats to Setwilli for being the only member of the 50+ club.
The Pargame Memorial Driving Accuracy Champion
Congrats to deliroustim for driving the ball at just below Tour Average! On the whole - we fucking suck off the tee. Holy shit. 31%? Embarassing. Congrats to Wheel for saying fuck your fairways, I want to make this as hard as possible on myself.
The Ball Striking Jessie Award for GIR %
Congrats to Tyler for being the only one to eclipse 60%. Genuinely impressive to wake up at 5am and go hit 5-6 greens every week. GoodGuySam and Seth both chose to hit a tasteful 1 green per round, just to make things interesting.
The Brad Faxon Smooth Stroker Award for Total Putts
I knew this one would be djheadley, who may have had a Frankenputter in play this year?! Fun to see how the GIR leaders did on this one, as you’d assume they’d have more putts, but Tyler just hit a lot of greens and made a lot of putts. Hm…a strategy I may consider. Sam took the opposite approach…deciding not to hit greens and then also not make putts. If they zig, you zag! In all honestly as Sam only joined us a couple times, this probably goes to show how broken Syd’s greens are and it’s likely sabotaging us all on other courses.
The Denny’s Grand Slam Award for Best Scrambler
Ahh, so this is how Tyler kept those putting totals down. All I learned from this is the Pros have way better short games than us and HOW THE HELL IS FITZY LEADING THE TOUR WHEN HE LITERALLY CHIPS CROSS HANDED??
Hole by Hole Winners
Congrats, you own a hole now. Taking a stab at naming these based on who owns them, though nothing will beat PinkPantser 's “Eldrick’s Hog.”
Par 3 Leader: TeddyPargame at 3.25. If distance wasn’t a thing, Ted would smoke us every week, I’m sure of it.
Par 4 Leader: Ballgame at 4.25. But distance is very much a thing, and other Ted has it in spades.
Par 5 Leader: tmstrods at 4.75. Par is irrelevant. Shoutout myself for also being a 4.92 here and under par on the year. Bully the par 5s!
Hole 1: Sausage King’s Ransom
Hole 2: Four Point Five
Hole 3: Aaron Hills
Hole 4: Headleystrong
Hole 5: Strod & Narrow
Hole 6: Delirium Tremens
Hole 7: Coyote Corner
Hole 8: Teds Triumph
Hole 9: Tim’s C(l)ock
Birdie Challenge
No one got all 9, but djheadley and Ballgame did get 7/9 to take the title. Only three of us birdied #4, so congrats Danny, Pargame, and Abe. Hole 3 only succumbed to 4 birds, and Hole 7 only gave up 5. Hole #2 is easier than a puck bunny after a hat trick.
MVP
This can’t go to anyone other than JAD. He was clinical all year - alone, partnered up, RTW, doesn’t matter. He absolutely ran away with the Regular Season Race to the Clocktower and is infinitely deserving of the #1 seed. Let’s see if he can take it wire to wire and bring home a title.
Final Words
This is undoubtedly the greatest golf league I have ever been a part of, and maybe that there’s ever been. I am so immensely happy every single Thursday morning to wake up and go join 11 of you trying to chase our golf balls around at 5am. This was only driven home more when the ability to play was taken away from me for a while. I can’t imagine a better group of guys, and the level of commitment is unparalleled. Honestly, one absence in 20 weeks is astounding and a testament to you all. We had more subs than ever come join us this year. Waveland Breakfast Club is stronger than ever, and likely the best part of the entire Refuge.
@Tron @Soly @djpie @MerchCzar @Randy - we truly have something special here and would love for you all to come see it. Open invite to join the Waveland Breakfast Ball crew whenever you’d like to come see one of the best parts of the NLU Universe for yourselves.
Thank you all for another amazing year,
BBK

Thank you for the weekly enjoyment of seeing the latest stats and leaderboards.
A win for bunters everywhere! But the real driving accuracy champ has to be pargame… I showed up a few times and got quite lucky, but definitely can’t compare to his consistency.
Also one of my “hit fairways” was the first tee ball of the year, freezing my digits off. A beautiful 75yard duff-chunk-bunt. Since then, I haven’t hit the first fairway. PRESSSSURE - Azinger voice*
AND BIG THANKS TO @BabblingBrooksKoepka. I wish I could’ve played more Thursdays as it’s an absolute energizer being out there with you all. But second best to being there, is checking this thread and the in depth stats that the LPGA should be jealous of. A real masterpiece and an exciting follow. Cheers
Amazing. Look forward to seeing it in person one day!
Drawing @Ballgame in this and the Roost Match Play finals feels like when Man City and Liverpool play each other in multiple domestic cup competitions.
Looking for payback after he drubbed me at Olympia Fields in 2020
Thursday before the first round of the 2023 BMW at Olympia?
Thanks @BabblingBrooksKoepka for the colorful recap. I’d say you deserve some votes for MVP for coming back injured, playing well, and putting that domer degree to use with the mad stats each week. Really fun for all of us. Thank you!
As for this line:
I feel like this is my case for the sub-40 average.
Have the strapped boys come try and make that budget work in a major market as retribution for their shenanigans! Is there a better punishment than giving @randy a 5am tee time?
won’t be able to play this week, need a sub for a sub.
I opened it up on the Google sheet.
Welcome to the Week 1 of the Race to the Clocktower! We have a split crew this week, but that just means more guis get to play golf.
Tuesday Match Play: @Ballgame vs @JAD and @BabblingBrooksKoepka vs @tmstrods are playing the first two matches. The winner between Ted and Joe will advance to the Final Four while the loser will play Bill or Tyler in the Saucy Six. Ya’ll have your tee times/plans set already. Good luck to you all and let us know how it all turns out.
Thursday Match Play: Myself vs @treeputttim and @PinkPantser vs @TrajMahal are playing the remaining two matches. The winner between Myself and Moth will advance to the Final Four while the loser will play Jake or Kevin in the Saucy Six.
Thursday we are looking at a 6:15 sunrise with hopefully no clouds and temps in the upper 60s. As there are only 4 of us playing in the match play on Thursday that means we have an even 8 of you playing some type of side game. I am going to delegate this duty to @ChiFFI and @TheAbeFroman as they are OG breakfast ballers.
Tee Times:
6:10 @ChiFFI @JAD Will and Cswartz
6:17 @TheAbeFroman Paul, Bartell and @andrewf
6:24 Myself @treeputttim @PinkPantser and @TrajMahal
Team I need a perma-sub.
I will then become a perma-sub.
Catch you on the other side!
I grabbed @TeddyPargame’s spot on the sub sheet, let me know what tee time that is!
Got you slated for the first tee time of that day at 6:10.
Thanks!
