After a productive evening at 5 iron last Thursday. The Waveland Breakfast Ball Club is a step closer to kicking off it’s 3rd season.
First there will be 12 member/regulars spots for 3 tee times each Thursday starting 4/14. I have put in a call to Sydney R. Marovtiz (Waveland) and I am waiting for a call back to confirm that we can pre-book our standing tee times similar to last year.
Secondly, to determine these twelve members, we are treating it similar to season ticket holders. First right of refusal foes to the 12 guis who ponied up last year, after it will go to whoever played the most rounds as a sub, after that its goes out to the general public. As of last Thursday we have 10 returning members and the two subs who played the most have confirmed via text they want in. This leaves us with a competitive sub sheet. Additionally, if there is a week where there isn’t a lot of space for subs you are all more than welcome to book the 4th tee time to join in the game!
Speaking of the game there are lots of them going on this year! Individually, we will be playing a season long quota game in which your top 10 scores will count toward your position at the end of the year to determine who is in the playoffs (Same concept as last year, read further down to learn about the new playoff schedule). New this year we will have 3 teams assigned via a draft. These teams will be headed by the top finishers from last years league. Each team will compete against each other every 4-5 weeks and be assigned a quota score as a team (1st place 2 pts, 2nd 0 pts, 3rd -2 pts). This helps make the team games mean something. At the end of the season, whichever team wins the most points is the winner.
Now as a league last year we did a great job of playing a weekly game outside of quota like wolf, banker, scotch etc. We will continue to play them week in and week out, but an additional weekly game will be introduced this year with a charity aspect in mind. Each week we will be playing split the pot, where you have the chance to put $5 bucks in the pot and whoever has the highest Quota score takes home half the pot, while the other half is donated to the First Tee Chicago. It’s a great way to give back and helps up the ante week in and week out.
As many have said before, red tee week was an awesome time and lots have said we should do it more often! Well you got your wish! The game plan is to play off the reds in April or May and play once more in August. This way you can track your improvement from the short course and see if you improved at all throughout the year.
Now onto the playoffs. Last years playoffs went off just fine. But we as the newly formed Waveland Breakfast Ball Club strive for excellence and have decided to tweak the playoffs this year. This year only the top 8 players will make it (tie breakers will be determined based on your 11th best score). AND to make it even more competitive at the top we are playing Australian Rugby style playoffs. @Ballgame can fill you in more, but the cliff notes are this if you make it to the top 4 you have double eliminations if you are 5-8 only single eliminations. Playoffs will begin and end in the month of September giving us 5 weeks to get 4 rounds of playoffs in.
If you have made it this far I commend you as there is a lot to unpack here and we still have 2.5 months before we even get on the course. My DMs are open for backlash, but I assure you these decisions were made on a group basis, so please blame @TeddyPargame.
Best Regards,
