Only ever booked midsize with National. Can pick any car and go to gate. They don’t really care if you don’t have status. Gotten tahoes and infiniti’s even though I lost my emerald status when I stopped traveling for work

Once had to move a grandfather clock and with mileage charges u-haul van was about $150. Was able to get a fully loaded infiniti qx80 from national for $48 for the day

My old company pays a yearly fee for everyone to have emerald status. I signed up for my account with my personal email address. So 5 years after leaving the company, I still have emerald status. I feel like it’s my severance package for them screwing me over when they lost a contract.

I’ve rented from National quite a few traveling for work as well. Have always done the emerald aisle but this was the first time I’ve seen the luxury category at a lower price point than midsize. For $40 cheaper it might be worth the gamble to see what give me.
