Agree with all of this. Southern Dunes is solidly the second best (public) course in the state, I think.
Wouldn’t expert there to be conditioning issues at Papago in early March - mostly I see them struggle in the hot summer. But @Jpop942 probably gets out there more than I do. If they have issues in high season, given what they charge now, yikes.
Yeah tbh I usually play in the summer. It’s impossible to get out with the city card this time of year so I don’t see it much in prime season. They have the ASU home tournaments in April though so I’d hope they look to peak for that.
If anyone else wants to split a place to stay, sign up by this weekend and we’ll work on booking a property next week. Enter your handle and travel dates in the Lodging sheet here and we’ll take it to DMs:
I’m in for Friday golf. I’ll add it to the spreadsheet s when I’m not on my phone. My wife is coming out Friday, so I’m going to get a hotel room for the weekend, but if the shared lodging groups are cool with it, I’d pay to crash on the couch Thurs night.
The most miserable round of golf I ever played was at Papago. If I never play there again it’ll be too soon.
In the interest of our wallets, I would like to propose that we play either GCU or Dobson Ranch Friday afternoon before heading to Grass Clippings for the evening session.
Any traffic considerations for deciding between GCU and Dobson Ranch?
Traffic is generally worse in the central and west valley. Getting from Dobson to Grass Clippings would be pretty easy. GCU to Grass Clippings will be a longer drive with more traffic, for sure.
