Tumbleweed Two Ball 2.0 (Phoenix, AZ) 03/02/24 - Aguila Golf Course

Agree with all of this. Southern Dunes is solidly the second best (public) course in the state, I think.

Wouldn’t expert there to be conditioning issues at Papago in early March - mostly I see them struggle in the hot summer. But @Jpop942 probably gets out there more than I do. If they have issues in high season, given what they charge now, yikes.

Yeah tbh I usually play in the summer. It’s impossible to get out with the city card this time of year so I don’t see it much in prime season. They have the ASU home tournaments in April though so I’d hope they look to peak for that.

Dobson Ranch is also solidly in my options list. Looking like a much more reasonable price point.

Perfectly respectable muni. You’ve seen it on Strapped, you know what you’re gonna get.

I’ll always ride for Dobson. A perfectly fine muni and almost always in good shape. A good deal at the price point this time of year.

Would you guys say it’s the top muni option in the area (non-Aguila division)?

I’d give the edge to GCU but Dobson is right behind it. Opposite sides of town though (GCU is west side closer to Aguila though).

For the record this is high on my list of friday options, I’m a billy bell fan and always down to add another of his designs to my course list.

Southern dunes looks sick too though and the twilight rate is reasonable to me

GCU is typically in absolutely pure condition in March as well. Dobson ranch is always an absolute blast.

Southern Dunes is the begs of the options.

I will Sherpa anyone anywhere on Friday and play.

Night golf at Grass Clippings on Friday could be a viable fun option to if we want to double dip.

I’m in for Friday golf. I’ll add it to the spreadsheet s when I’m not on my phone. My wife is coming out Friday, so I’m going to get a hotel room for the weekend, but if the shared lodging groups are cool with it, I’d pay to crash on the couch Thurs night.

The most miserable round of golf I ever played was at Papago. If I never play there again it’ll be too soon. :joy:

In for everything

Southern Dunes sounds great. Doesn’t seem like a bad drive.

In the interest of our wallets, I would like to propose that we play either GCU or Dobson Ranch Friday afternoon before heading to Grass Clippings for the evening session.

Any traffic considerations for deciding between GCU and Dobson Ranch?

Traffic is generally worse in the central and west valley. Getting from Dobson to Grass Clippings would be pretty easy. GCU to Grass Clippings will be a longer drive with more traffic, for sure.
