No no no, this time it’s permanent.

Alright folks: we are 8 days out and counting. Here is a refresher on stakes, rules, schedule, etc. Really looking forward to this year’s rendition of the Tumbleweed Two Ball! We had a great event last year that built on the inaugural Phoenix event, and this year has some minor tweaks to make the competitive portion even better.

I won’t be playing Sunday and haven’t engaged in any planning - just a note to work on that, if needed.

Please register in Unknown Golf if you haven’t already. We will be relying on this platform for live scoring. I have added everyone’s GHIN into the player list so upon registration, you should see yourself already linked to this event. I sent out an email from Unknown earlier today with tee sheet, teams, and flights. If you did not receive it, your email is not linked to the system. It’s not required, but be advised that it is a viable communication vehicle.

Tee times have been randomly assigned (except for me so I can go out first and be available for scoring help post-round) and are listed at the end of this post.

Format: combined team score from the following rounds

  • 18 holes, net stroke play, team net total
  • First 9 holes, gross alternate shot (executive course)
  • Second 9 holes, gross alternate shot (switch player order)
  • Tie breaker: sudden death playoff

Stakes: as a No Laying Up Roost Major, we have one Nest Invitational Tournament berth on the line. This spot will go to the winning team to assign as they choose - we recommend the player with the lower 18 hole net score, but it’s ultimately up to the winners. The NIT will be held at Dobson Ranch in Phoenix on (I believe) the last weekend of October. Additional modest prizes are as follows:

  • Winning team, non-NIT recipient: $75 NLU Pro Shop gift code
  • Low Gross (18): Nest member towel
  • Low Net (18): Nest member towel
  • Flight winners (net): NLU hat or shirt each
  • Team alt shot winners: NLU hat or shirt each
  • Additional opt-in HIO and CTP $$$ - see below

Rules:

  • Hit cups on every hole, every round
  • Play lost balls as lateral and don’t be a scumbag
  • Max hole score, 18 hole round: gross triple bogey
  • Max hole score, alternate shot: infinite

Opt-in HIO and CTP $$$

  • Send $20 to Venmo ID @jpmudrick (security code 5517) to participate
  • A hole in one collects 50% of the total (round up to $250 if everyone participates)
  • Closest to pin (two holes on the short course) collects 10% (round up to $50 each if everyone participates)
  • Remainder will be given to our current charity: Animal Humane New Mexico

I still have a few cases of Fat Tire gifted to the Roost by NLU last summer. I will fit as many as I can into my checked baggage. I am calling on locals to bring some ice and coolers - I’ll give a final beer count on Thursday or Friday for logistics.

Tee sheets:

We will see how pace is in the morning, but plan to start the short course session around 2:30. That would be a quick turn for a 5 hour round so we’ll see how it goes and adapt.

I think that covers what I wanted to get out to everyone. Our Friday tee times are set - 1:06 at Dobson Ranch and 7:50 at Grass Clippings (two foursomes each). See you all next week, feel free to drop questions here.

No questions, just a comment on Grass Clippings. Had a friend play there last weekend and said they were an 8some with no issues (for them at least) so our odd number should be okay.

Sweet. I still want to play alt shot with someone. Definitely an “every swing counts” situation.

Also game to play alt shot or something not conventional stroke play.

As someone that works nights, I can’t tell you how stressed I was about being in the first group out lol. :raised_hands:

I’ll be able to bring a cooler for the weekend and plan on making a Costco run as well next week to stock up on drinks. Also down for some type of game at grass clippings.

Just going to throw out being discreet about outside drinks while at Aguila. It was one of two highlighted items on the contract haha.

I would never think about bringing outside drinks to a golf course

But discretion is key

I do have a question on the scoring. Curious why we’re going max gross triple bogey for the net stroke play? Seems like that would benefit the high cappers far more than the low. Why not max net double like we play for almost everything else? That said, I’m really hoping no triples are lurking… but curious the thought behind that. I can be convinced!

The only thought I gave it was “that’s what NLU did for the stroke play portion of Roost Club Championships.” But I agree with you that net double bogey is more equitable, and it’s what the USGA uses for handicapping purposes. So unless I see arguments against, I’ll make that change for the 18 hole stroke play session.

I can see both sides. Maybe it balances itself out. I’m game for whatever, but think net double is more equitable.

It doesn’t balance itself out. I believe it is to speed up play. I like net double better!

I’m with net double bogey

Net double works for me. Exited to get out and play with y’all.

I forgot to mention that the default will be the ~6400 yard silver tees. I think the course plays well for the majority of our skill levels at that distance but if anyone wants to play forward or back, that will be allowed. I felt for @JosieWon when he had more than gap wedge into maybe two par fours last year. Let me know by Tuesday so I can pair longer players together to make play a little more smooth.

Tagging other low cap bombers @ComfyDouble @TheSwimmingPool @jknudtson I don’t know everyone’s game so feel free to discuss.

I’m game to play from wherever. Will probably be a decision to make in the group. I won’t play back if no one else in my group does. But if someone wants to, we can move back. Good to know it’s an option!

I’m not near long enough to complain about 6400 yards, that is more than okay with me.
