I was going to post this too. It’s so weird. OkState fans call Oklahoma UO.
Disappointed at the lack of international options from @Randy I really think you would enjoy Vancouver or Calgary.
“When I worked for the Reds”
(5 minutes later)
“When I was working for a sports franchise I can’t name”
This Miami video doesn’t get the amount of love it should compared to the Ed Reed “I’m hurt dog” video.
How is Charleston not on the short list, disgraceful.
Sad to not get a Pacman Jones legal update.
I’m throughly entertained. I did not expect to listen to 2 hours straight. Im a huge local news nerd so very happy to dive into it.
Boom Town was so much fun to read. I thought the basketball parts were marvelous, and I never would have guessed the City/civic parts so wild and interesting. Fullest recommendation.
@NoLayovers You know what, you’re right about the wedding. Will address that next week!
What’s the place to be in NH? Burlington, VT just missed the final 5
Tough to scout/execute in COVID times!
Sam Anderson is a great writer and I think he actually came to love the city while doing research on the book.
Very cool to hear my hometown of Raleigh and the Triangle area on the shortlist. I know Randy mentioned looking for a good river or some hiking, lots of good spots around but two I can think of right away are Umstead State Park in Raleigh and Eno River State Park in Durham. I now live down the road in GSO, but really enjoy going back to visit friends and family in the Raleigh area.
Can’t beat being a couple hours drive to the mountains and a couple hours to the beach, relatively easy access to both.
The only real city is Manchester which is okay but nothing special. You’d probably dig Portsmouth but it’s really just a smaller Portland. If you aren’t looking for a city then you could go up to the lakes region (Laconia maybe?) to find some rural inner peace. You’d be fairly far from civilization though. NH is a great place but from someone who lived there for 24 straight years you made the right choice picking Portland for your northeast destination.
You’re a gentleman and a scholar!
I remember in high school I pitched this as a date idea to a romantic interest and she looked at me like I had two heads. “That’s so early to get up, and kind of pointless.” Things didn’t work out between us.
Portsmouth is definitely top choice. I am partial to the capital city. Has a law school. Hour to the beach. Hour to the mountain. And the oldest golf course in NH (allegedly)
Portsmouth would be your spot.
The Beav!?!? Home to the shit show that was always the Class I state championship held sometimes in snow.
