I imagine it’s sometimes funny what lines in a book stand out to individual people, and @TomCoyne, as the author of a whopping ONE whole book myself, your parenthetical “It’s an author’s least favorite question; I’d rather you ask me my weight.” about how long it will take you to write a book (or I assume when you’re writing your next book, which is the one I get) caught me by surprise and made me laugh. I’ve gotten — and dislike — that question as well.
Also, I’m at about 15 pages past that point in the book.
Regretfully, I caught the “the first tea” typo several pages ago (Hazeltine). We have three typos in our book (one a double word “the the” on two lines, IIRC), the other two actual words - “send” instead of “sand,” for one).
Anyway, I imagine that line, as you wrote it, maybe you imagined twenty people might read it and think something to themselves. Whatever the number, I incremented the real-world total by one yesterday. Kudos! You know the truth you speak.
What a fantastic conversation to wrap up the series. Such a great idea @randy and @TomCoyne and it really was a great way to follow along with each chunk of the book. Tom, your Dad seems like an absolutely delightful character and you can tell how proud he is of his family. I could’ve listened to his stories for hours. I hope you take this as a compliment, but his voice and style of speaking reminded me of an old school baseball broadcaster a la Vin Scully or Jack Buck.
Also, Randy I hope this is one small step towards your inevitable second career when you leave NLU - becoming a Professor of Golf Literature and living in that house you spotted at Gearhart. I just hope you offer virtual classes so we can all attend!
Tom, I meant to send this in to have @Randy ask you, but it got by me. Really enjoyed the book, which I listened to on Audible. The question is, what kind of input do you have, if any, over who reads your book? I know the same guy read Scotland and America of yours at least, if you did have input or veto power, how’d you choose him?
Hey thanks for reading. And reaching out. I get to pick from a handful of voice actors that they suggest. Jacques sounded the youngest so I went with him – and thought he did a very nice job with Scotland so stuck with him for America. I tried doing it for a minute – it is not easy!
Not related to your book but I’ve noticed when you finish your swing, the clubhead bounces quite a bit behind your head. Is that a conscious thing? Premature sorry if I’ve ruined your swing going forward and you can’t get it out of your head now. Iced tea on me
