Trap Draw: "The Bear" Perfect Club

Can easily see Syd taking Adam’s offer to be the CdC at his restaurant, with Luca being the pastry chef, and the two of them continuing their flirtation, and Carmy coming to the realization that you can do great work and be happy at the same time if you stop trying to be militantly perfect and strive for a level of acclaim that will never satisfy you anyway

Echo’s of Syd asking Carmy what it was like when he got the call about retaining the three stars in the first season.

Yep. She has a healthy view on success and the industry. She wants the success and the acclaim, but she isn’t willing to go back to being miserable and treated like shit to get it. She’d rather be happy. Carmy has never really known happiness on a long term scale, because he’s always trying to please someone he thinks is above him on the ladder, so every step up he takes, he just sees someone else he has to kill himself to please. There’s no way to reconcile these two things, at least not with the latter type of person in charge of the former, so there has to be a split or a massive change in working conditions

yup, we’re talking about the same episode

I had this season ranked second of the 3 seasons (All 3 seasons are insanely good) because of the in depth character development. That said, there is something to be said for a balance. The (minor) criticism of the season I had is that I felt it didn’t tie up any of the lose ends. It set the stage to do so, but for me, any one of the unanswered plot questions being answered would have been nice, and still left room to explore it going forward…

Example: Having Syd except the offer. They have have to show the effects of that happening going forward. As it stands, I worry that if next season is the last season, it’s going to be tough fitting everything in.

Such a great show. You know it’s a winner when it spurs this level of conversation/dissection.

I just don’t think the actual plot machinations are as important to the creative team as they are to some of the viewers. I’m sure next season will end up being pretty plot heavy and give closure on most of the stuff people want (that’s what last seasons are for), but they seem a lot more interested in exploring the psychological and emotional sides of the characters and the industry. I’m sure that stuff isn’t for everyone, but it’s the kind of thing that separates great shows from plot driven popcorn shows, imo. For me, the best episodes of this season were the first two, Ice Chips, and the finale. All very different episodes from a stylistic standpoint, but all of them were episodes focused on psychological things and interpersonal dynamics of different characters. I don’t know that you could do 30-40 episodes of this show where it’s just about a beef shop turning into a fine dining restaurant that struggled to find its way, and still get the kind of emotional investment and audience buy in that his show has. Maybe a big part of that is people who’ve worked in the industry and feel a familiarity with the dynamics and language, or just people who’ve struggled with tough lives that they’ve tried to put behind them on their way to try to accomplish something, but if this show was closer to a nuts and bolts show like Reacher, I don’t think it ever reaches the levels it has by taking time to color outside the lines

Camry could have just punched his way out of that fridge

Man now I am really imagining this show with Reacher replacing Carmy. Or reacher replacing Richie.

“Going over their heads” is not the same thing as “didn’t particularly enjoy or want this kind of season.” You can “get” something without loving it.

I also don’t think people who love the show overall but put season 3 as their least favorite are saying they disliked season 3. Just not as much as 1 and 2.

But don’t let that get in the way of you calling those who didn’t adore this season simple morons. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok

I’ve seen people say that they could skip the first episode all together. In this very thread @mrzornow said 90% of the first episode was just someone garnishing a plate. This show reaches a wide swath of people and I think there was distinct definition made between people who didn’t enjoy it as much and people who have been outright hostile to this season.

There’s also, like, a lot of people in the world who aren’t on this message board. Those people also have opinions of the show. But, main character syndrome…

it was actually 96%

When I ate at Daniel, it was a 10pm reservation and I had consumed numerous martini’s beforehand and … I can’t remember a single thing I ate.

I do remember I had the wine pairing and, at one point, my wife and I had 3 very full glasses each of different wines.

That is all.

I’m about halfway in. I think people’s enjoyment or non enjoyment of this season stem from what they enjoy about the show.

Personally I’m more invested in the characters than the plot of the restaurant, so two thumbs up from me.

I understand if you’re watching it from a different prism and are slightly dissapointed.

Not in the least. You basically said anyone who didn’t like the season is because it went over their heads. Doesn’t matter whether those people are on the forum or not.

I also think that, depending on where and what season 4 does… season 3 may get a bump from people if they see later it set up more than it seems it may have at this point.

I would never forgive myself for doing this

He said it went over a lot of the audiences head whether they liked it or not and if you look at broader viewing audience that’s not inaccurate. You’re the only person who took it as an affront. This seems to have more to do with you than with what anyone else is saying.
