They absolutely blaze through those reports too. I’m not any more informed at the end as I am at the beginning.
Amoeba Records is legit.
I don’t agree with a lot that @Lazstradamus has to say, but his take on Gus’s Fried Chicken is on point. So good.
The Jane Addams! What is with the subtle anti NW suburbs omission?
It’s only because I care about you too much to lie to you the way Zankou does to try to attract the froufrou westside crowd that wouldn’t be caught dead in Hollywood outside of awards season. #thetruthisoutthere
I hear it’s not uncommon to leave your wallet in El Segundo.
My biggest complaint with @Lazstradamus was that - as a guy from Minnesota who reps Husker Du quite well - when the subject of San Pedro came up, there was nary a mention of The Minutemen.
Only one guy that one time.
Ive always thought of that as the NW Tollway.
Underrated. I’ve only been a couple of times but it is really really good.
Big fan of the “LAPD is kind of a gang” take. Would like to see where they power rank.
As a gang most would rank them No. 2. No. 1 gang is pretty clearly the Sheriff’s Department.
As a mandatory reporter, I am obligated by law, to refer the incident to child protective services.
So are we simply dismissing LA burritos in this thread? Because I would have some (potentially fightin’) words.
I give him shit whenever it comes up.
I also think that my younger brother puking all over the back seat of the rental car on our way back to LAX was karma.
I am a Father’s Office burger fan. Last time I was in LA, we were out at dinner and before appetizers came we were already talking about hitting FO for a “dessert burger,” which is now a family tradition. We reciprocated here in Chicago with an Au Cheval to-go run.
Not mentioned:
The Getty is great. Fantastic art, great views, easily accessible. In normal times, an amazing restaurant worth splurging on.
Pepperdine. If I could live life over again I would go to Pepperdine.
Need some intel on Harvard Westlake. That’s gotta be the entitlement capital of the US, no?
Also,
UCLA >>>> USC. The former is in an amazing location in west LA and is full of deserving kids from all over who worked their asses off in high school. The University of Spoiled Children was at the center of the admissions scandal for a reason.
Spago is the most overrated restaurant I’ve ever patronized. Nate and Al’s FTW.
LA, like NYC, is incredible if you’re rich and unbearable if you’re poor.
As a UCLA grad, I will agree with Laz’s take that Westwood sucks. Especially as a college town, there’s like 3 bars in the entire neighborhood and one of them was very high-end (read: out of a college student’s budget).
LA burritos - I have to mention Sonoratown in downtown, which makes an incredible flour tortilla.
I went to elementary school in Santa Monica before moving north. Had some classmates go there and … yeah, that checks out.
On the other hand, I spent 7th grade before moving at Crossroads, which is essentially a 7-12 school with about 20% of the kids being the sons or daughters of famous actors. It completely breaks your assumptions about what is normal and what isn’t to be around the daughter of Robert DeNiro or Ed Asner, or Ringo Starr’s step-daughter, just to name some folks. After I left, people who graduated from there include Jack Black, Baron Davis (apparently they added sports!) and a friend of mine who wrote a metric ton of episodes of Friends and The West Wing post-Sorkin. It’s a wild, wild world.
anybody familiar with the pitch and putt in Holmby Hills? Haven’t been there in 10ish years but had some very pleasant afternoons there during my years in Westwood. Had some really fun/interesting holes!
