Trap Draw: Grocery Stores (Disguised as a Memphis Exploration)

Really need a follow up on this post #yikes

Really tough scene here for @Randy

I see #BoycottKroger is trending on Twitter this morning.

Kroger

Has anyone checked on @Randy ?

Are we boycotting Kroger because they’re doing wage theft or because they announced some new mask/vax policy? It’s hard to keep track at this point.

Any references to the legendary Marc Cohn

I think it’s because Elaine Chao joined their board. #tuffscene

Who could say? It’s a very fluid situation at this point.

The first Aldi in my area is opening later this year. Is this something I should be excited about? I’ve never been to one in any other cities.

It’s more efficient and less expensive than any other grocery store I’ve been to. Some people recoil having to bag their own groceries and the quarter system for the carts can throw you off the first time. I shop their primarily for staples: eggs, milk, butter, cheaper cuts of meat (absurdly inexpensive), some produce and bread. Their condiments and snacks are generally inferior. Options are limited in produce but they are of passable quality. There’s no decision fatigue as there is usually only one or two options per item. There are occasionally nice surprises in the specialty items.

It’s not going to replace all other grocery stores but a weekly or bi-monthly stop there to pick up some essentials helps the budget immensely.

Probably not to be honest, but YMMV. It’s cheap, but mostly quality produce/meats/dairy, and extremely no-frills (bag your own groceries/put in a quarter to unlock a cart). Also fairly limited number of brands so it’s not really a one stop shop. I like having one nearby if I need something basic in a pinch, but don’t go there weekly. If I didn’t have a Costco membership, I’d probably go there more often for meat/fish, but tend to get chicken breasts, ground beef, salmon, or tilapia filets at Costco.

I don’t mind bagging groceries as I do that at Walmart every week. The fact that I need a quarter to shop there might be enough to keep me away most times, though. I never have change because I use cash maybe once a year.

I usually keep a single quarter in the car’s coin tray for this exact reason.

Will work to uncover the mystery next month @tron and @Randy. Forward over any provocative questions that must be answered.

@Randy or @jskovgaard who are my Colorado proxies since I’ve been told more than 5 years away from my home state I can no longer claim it…

Safeway then King Soopers carried the water in CO with the occasional toss in of Albertsons. Has the Sprouts army really taken the state?!

Also claiming Meijer is OH is just an affront to Kroger/Giant Eagle which also seems like BS.

Hell yeah HEB

@skibum232 Sprouts, Natural Grocers etc are all the rage now out here now, we’re really pressing to have the most granola state designation.

Don’t even dare ask the local coffee shop for a whole milk latte, they will look at you like you’re crazy, or hate animals, or torture animals.
