Trap Draw: Chop Sessions

The right hand fill up indicated here just reminded me of one of my biggest issues. People with left hand fill ups that pull in the wrong way at gas stations. The number of times I’ve had them get shitty with me because I pull up at sams club and they have to back out is astounding.

It’s pretty nuts our prices are higher than almost any resteraunt around already on the menu then add service charge and tip. I tried to talk to the gm one night would you rather sell one 70 dollar entree a week to people or a 40 dollar one 3 times. I used to eat at my old club all the time and now i never eat at my new club because i just feel like I’m getting ripped off

If the entree costs 30 dollars to the club then option 1. Great margins for a restaurant!

How much would a server salary need to be to justify no tipping? At high end restaurants it’s definitely 6 figures.

Yep. It sucks. But it sounds like from what I’ve heard, if it say service charge, it goes to the owner.

I swear we go to the same club! We talk about this all the time. And it sucks because we have a F&B manager and chef that want change. They keep saying how they see members who are regulars in the summer out to eat at other places in the winter. So it’s not like they aren’t going out. But the GM simply looks at the bottom line. He says things like “well, demand really falls off a cliff in the winter.” I’m like, no shit. You’re also only open 4 days a week for dinner only and 1 day a week (Sunday) or lunch only. Then after the 1st of the year they’ll go to three days a week with “theme nights” which is code for “you’re about to pay double for this dinner because we’re making it look nice.”

Re Krispy Kreame:

In the early 2000s, Krispy Kreame was entering the Kansas City market. They offered a promotion that if the Royals got 12 hits in a game, anyone in attendance could take their ticket stub to a Krispy Kreame and get a free dozen glazed donuts that night and the following day. A family of four could end up with 48 donuts! The Royals were mostly terrible during those seasons, so frequently the best thing to root for during the late innings of a blowout loss was for the home team to pick up a few garbage time hits. It was funny when someone hit a single in the 8th inning while the Royals trailed 8-4, and the crowd reacted like it was a walk off home run.

The best of these games was Opening Day 2004 when the Royals had 9 (I think) hits and trailed the White Sox 7-3 going into the bottom of the ninth. A few guys got on base and Mendy Lopez hit a three run dinger as the 11th hit to tie the game. The next batter singled to give everyone donuts before Carlos Beltran hit a walk off home run to win the game. I think the promotion only lasted a season or two, but it led to me eating more Krispy Kreams during during those two years than the rest of my life put together. Also, the 2004 Royals went onto lose 104 games and fire manager Tony Pena mid-season.

Same. And volume controls on the steering wheel are on different sides. Keeps you guessing…

Re: restaurant surcharges, I’ve also seen messaging on menus explaining that there’s an additional percentage (usually 4%?) that specifically goes toward employee healthcare coverage. I’m good with that. Typically they also say you can ask for it to be removed. YMMV, but kinda sounds like a dick move.

TC apparently unaware of the father of the bride hot dog bun rant, tough

Hate that!

Kinda surprised neither of them buy fresh buns from the bakery.

I’ll get you on bold bean. Reporting back.

My local grocery store sells fresh hotdog buns in 6 and 8 packs. Didn’t realize that wasn’t a thing everywhere

I found @Randy take on not wanting to tip when he orders drip coffee an interesting one. Do you only tip when you order a cocktail and not a draft beer?

my default for draft or drip coffee is a dollar in the jar or comparable if I don’t have cash. If I’m getting a cocktail or specialty drink I’ll do more. I fall in line with his feelings of why is it on us the consumer to make sure these employees are paid a fair wage and why can’t the companies just do it and I’ll gladly pay more if that were the case.

Completely unrelated to the substance of the tweet, but is Cincinnati or Charlotte considered the real Queen City? If they’re both the Queen City, are either of them really the Queen City?

Cocktails, i do 20% on the bill. Draft beers I tip a dollar a beer.

I have batteries ready and waiting to be hurled. No respect for Dawg Mentality from the trap draw

I waited tables at a country club for 1 summer and I got tipped a total of 3 times. My boss from the tennis center who got me the country club job, my girlfriends dad when he used his reciprocal benefits to play the course, and this crotchety old man who told me to fuck off and leave him alone but threw me $20.

I don’t remember exactly how it worked or if the club added a charge to the meals, I don’t think they did, but we made like $9-10/hr and then “commission” from all the tables we served. I really hated it because nobody wanted to come to the club and get upsold on stuff so then it was luck of the draw. Did you get a table of the old couple who just came over for dinner or did you get the local “high-rollers” who bought 8-10 bottles of wine and racked up a massive bill?

This reminds me of a Warriors game back in the Run TMC era. Warriors were up by a ton bud hadn’t scored 120, which was the cut off for a similar promotion for free pizza. A stub from a game where they did score 120 or more got the holder a free pie from Pizza Hut. So Tim Hardaway starts chucking threes, and making two or three. Coach Don Nelson calls a timeout and at some point must have asked him what he was doing since that’s not what he called and the mic clearly picks up Hardaway saying “PIZZA!”
