Lol, accusing me of being an ableist is pretty harsh. Happy to adjust my take on eBikes. The technology is great/effective/impressive/useful. I also thought the innovation I saw from delivery guys in NYC was incredible. They’d have gloves glued to the handlebars, rain covers, etc. on the eBikes. My refined take is that they are fucking dangerous, and I feel like people acknowledge the danger on combustion bike/dirt bikes and not eBikes. The silence combined with the speed of the machine is really dangerous for any age.
I like analog technology. Mirrors are sick, especially when applied to specific use cases like driving.
I think we got to a consensus that specific named weather phenomenons are sick: specifically rogue waves (white squalls) and bow echoes are sick. I don’t think “wind” or “hurricane naming” is sick. No pride of authorship. My take was stress tested and refined by the committee. The process works.

Additionally I do not disagree with any of your macro takes, they are dangerous. Class 3 e-bikes that can go 30mph, with no noise, and people being reckless is particularly dangerous.

As a local news guy I have noticed a significant increase in crashes involving e bikes and e scooters being reported. Obviously they’re being used more so that’s part of the increase but the amount of crashes doesn’t seem proportional to their use.

The way the delivery guys on e-bikes ride them on sidewalks in cities is crazy. Just swerving through pedestrians
There have been enough people (mostly kids) killed on e-bikes in our city that there is strong push to have some kind of ban/restrictions on them.
They are different cameras and are positioned in completely different places. They have a different field of view.
Backup cameras do get covered in snow, dirt, and ice. A large part of that is due to position.
If you’ve had a car with both features you know that the camera for the rear view camera mirror has less interference and than the back up camera under those conditions.
Have a friend who is a pediatric surgeon and says once a week some kid comes in with a TBI or some other terrible injury because they’re going 30 without a helmet and riding like a complete asshole

It sounds like your issue isn’t with e-bikes as a whole, but with high-speed electric bikes being ridden irresponsibly.
Most people ride Class 1 (pedal assist) or Class 2 (pedal assist + throttle) e-bikes, both of which are limited to 20 mph. That’s what most parents in my town (including me) use to haul kids around, run errands, and pick up groceries.
The bigger issue is Class 3 e-bikes, which provide pedal assist up to 28 mph. It’s not uncommon to see kids riding them, and I think operating a Class 3 e-bike should require a driver’s license.
Even more concerning are electric dirt bikes, which technically aren’t e-bikes at all. Many are capable of much higher speeds and require a motorcycle license and registration on public roads, but you still see kids fucking riding them.
There needs to be better enforcement by local police, along with more responsibility from parents who ignore or enable this behavior. Our town has actually started confiscated the electric dirt bikes from kids.
I think this is what I see kids riding around my town, but they aren’t even pedaling. They are just hauling ass everywhere asking to get hurt or run over.
I think the electric scooters that are Class 3 or modified to remove limiter are ridiculously dangerous. Seen scooters doing 35 mph+.
Seeing people ride e-scooters with full motorcycle style helmets is kinda giving the game away. Its a matter of when they crash, not if.
And whoever crashes in them will get hurt bad. Government needs to step in and regulate them via licensing.
