This bridge has been hit 67 times. Most have been in the last 6-7 years.
Unless I wasn’t close enough paying attention listening, I’m surprised that as a former Boston resident Tron didn’t mention all of the trucks every year that Storrow themselves.
Monitoring notice for the the Lewotobi Laki Laki volcano in Indonesia. These volcanoes in Indonesia are the big ones that we all worry about in terms of causing regional to global scale impacts. When the ash column pokes up into the stratosphere that is when things get serious for pyroclastic flows and atmospheric problems.
We have one in Syracuse that has been hit ~monthly as long as I have lived here (13 years). Pretty much the same as the Canopener Bridge in NC.
“Speaking of not wanting the smoke, Big, have you heard about this volcano in Indonesia?”
“Yeah is that the Lebowski volcano?”
“It is. It’s got pyroclastic flows going into the stratosphere. Crazy.”
“Crazy.”

Exactly.
Cross posting to get it out of the slop of the politics thread
Bridge in Melbourne famous for getting hit even has its own website - https://howmanydayssincemontaguestreetbridgehasbeenhit.com/
Lol, in February I had a work tradeshow where we had a company truck with a giant case for equipment in the bed. The case was empty at the time but I dinged it twice trying to use a parking garage.
I am not sure anything could possibly make you feel dumber than bumping one of those hanging clearance bars and trying to turn around with cars behind you.
I tried a MyPillow probably sometime around 2018 or so. This was prior to me knowing the Mike Lindell lore. After just two nights, it wrecked my neck and shoulder. Truly left me in serious, debilitating pain. The thing was pathetically flimsy and unequivocally one of the worst, most useless products I’ve ever wasted money on.
Brick curious people. I have a different brand that somehow bundled 3 (well it’s on order)
Anyone want one?
I did the same thing a few years back. Had a friend raving about it. Bought one online, and never even used it for a single night.
I have a relative that used to own a bar that Mike Lindell would frequent back before the MyPillow days when he was on all sorts of drugs. He had a few good stories.
Re the box-trucks-hitting bridges convo, surprised TC didn’t bring up Storrow Dr in Boston. Getting “Storrowed” has even become a beer at Trillium Brewing.
Also, on the communal restroom features topic, a unique one here in San Diego is at Ironside (sick fish & oyster spot in Little Italy) has four individual stalls, but the sinks are shared with the adjacent stall, which scared the hell out of me the first time I experienced it. Was not expecting someone else’s hands in there!
@Tron @Randy consider subscribing to The Economist and getting the print subscription. One news magazine a week. Easier to keep up with than the daily paper. Allows you to pretty much completely unplug from the daily news app doomscrolling cycle.
The magazine travels better than a newspaper, less cumbersome to read with the morning coffee, on the toilet, etc…
I could not be more opposed to this trend. This is so weird and unnecessary.
Yeah it’s more of a novelty and kinda weird but I guess they save on the number of sinks? Not sure what the other benefits are other than “vibes”
Shoutout Yelp, there’s some pics of them:
@Tron when you get up to Cabot and Nova Scotia I think you need to make the journey over to see Cape Breton Highland Links.
Speed is the name of the game.
I honestly think you could field a team with NFL practice squad DBs and win gold easily.
@Tron May need to mea culpa the mea culpa on the Durham bridge. The more famous of the two bridges is definitely the Can Opener bridge just outside of downtown Durham. A Tale of Two Cities and Two Bridges - Durham's Can Opener and Raleigh's Peace Street Bridge This article is a good comparison - Durham bridge devours 11 trucks a year and the Raleigh bridge only gobbles one or two.
Dogs on flights should be limited to only seeing eye dogs.
You need to be blind and that dog’s harness better have that grab handle on it or no go.
