since we’re talking grocery stores and liquid death, I’d like to enter it into the record that such highly regarded establishments like HEB and Central Market here in Texas don’t let me murder my thirst. Never had a liquid death.

This happened to me for the first time two years ago! I don’t think it was Hertz, but I definitely returned the car at the airport (no agent, just leave keys in car per instructions, so this is partially on me) and I definitely got a notice about a month later that the car was not returned and it would be deemed stolen and I would have to pay the value of the vehicle. I disputed and they eventually found it at the airport.
