did you answer the question? do you think the media is fair?

Did you read what I posted? Do you think the green M&Ms are the best?

Are you disappointed now?!

Of course not. Orange and red are the best.

No, I just told anyone visiting me to do that if they were uncomfortable (and a lot of people are on market street after they get off BART at night coming from the airport)…I rode the 5 bus or my bike to work through the tenderloin everyday for 4 years (then rode the Google bus for a year and hated it). I also made a point to walk as much as possible from place to place. One of my favorite things to do in San Francisco. In 2015 and 2016, I had an annual goal to walk to a new restaurant in a new neighborhood every month fro the panhandle area. I nailed it in 2015 but only got 10 of 12 months in 2016. I’d argue the fact that I wasn’t from San Francisco, pushed me to explore the city more than I ever did in my hometown of Atlanta (or even NYC in college).

I’d be happy to share all of that on the pod, but I had to answer the questions I was asked!

Nah! These cross-era sports arguments are great. I’ll ride or die with peak Montana as the QB you’d want if your life depended on it.

I haven’t read this article but I would dismiss it on its premise. I can’t believe that even 5% of avid fans of this organization through this era think that Steve Young (great as he was) is the better QB.

Blame the hosts!! They didn’t ask about Niners franchise (just stadium stuff) or food situation. I had a whole power rankings ready for bars.

I find myself nodding with your other takes here. My last day in SF, I rode the motorcycle that @McSchvantz and I used to share (Honda VF500 Interceptor - I think he still has it) up to Marin Headlands and snapped a couple sunrise shots, then took it up to Mount Tam. The GG bridge is hard to hate on, but I find all the shit attached to and going on around the Bay Bridge more stimulating. It’s a total monstrosity!

Also, (unrelated but relevant since the pictures were right before that last one in my photo album)
@McSchvantz and I went skydiving up in Petaluma a couple days before that (obviously decked out in NLU gear), and his leg straps were too tight, so he passed out cold on the way down! It was truly SICK.

Shorter career, but peek Young was probably better than peek Montana. Also, better career completion percentage, with more yards per completion, higher TD percentage, same low interception percentage. . . and he was a legitimate running threat.

I’m a Montana guy but love Young too. Sports Illustrated did an article a few years ago that I can’t find that rated every college football player of all time and decided that Young was the best, ever. I’m sure some folks since then might have passed him but that blew my mind.

also they could’ve had a separate 2 hour pod on san jose sharks playoff failures (which are right up there with any franchise in professional sports in terms of this department)

Let’s not.

I’ve never heard anyone describe SFO in a positive light. It’s big and has the variety that comes with being big, but the waits can be insane and it even sucks dropping people off there. I dread international flights out of there.

I’ve lived in the East Bay for on-and-off 7 years, and OAK is great. Definitely not an airport you want to get to early (options are limited and overpriced), but the security lines are usually quick. For me, it reminds me of a nicer, roomier Burbank Airport in SoCal. I always tell visitors to fly into OAK and not SFO if possible. It’s been like 10 years since I’ve flown in/out of SJC, but it was more similar to OAK, from what I remember.

In terms of food, SF and the Bay Area in general are great for the mid-to-high end of things (so like $20+ for a meal). It’s really the low end where the area is lacking in options. Don’t get me wrong, I love La Taqueria burritos but I can get 10+ tacos in LA for the price of one burrito there. Even in places like Oakland, where things are supposed to be cheaper, there aren’t too many great sub-$10 options, especially when compared to places like LA and NY where other costs are similarly expensive.

  1. I answered the questions I’m asked. I had a whole power ranking of local bars and spots I love (but probably meaningless since I’m marauding gentrifier)

  2. The Czar regrets the error

  3. I thought you wanted less gentrification/tech talk not more? Anyway, This is me on tip top of Benioff’s Schvantz during construction. Salesforce is soulless but unfortunately, a really well run operation. My takes on Salesforce should be a separate thread…

  1. I don’t think I said it Pacifica was South Bay. I think I said it was the place south of the city I would live, which is what I meant.

  2. Tron was surprised by the bang bang niner gang (which is fair because he hasn’t spent that much time in SF), and I feel like it was a reach to turn that snippet of the conversation into a gentrification diatribe. But while we’re here… Technology/Silicon Valley stuff is my least favorite aspect of San Francisco (other than the fact that I was able to enjoy the city when they were giving Uber rides away for pennies). I have PTSD from tech conferences, don’t trust venture capitalists, hate tech billboards, hate over priced coffee meetings, hate the marina, and hate the word #disruption (even though I use it often). In short, I didn’t like my time in the tech sector, but I was able to figure that out by experiencing it first hand, just like I was able to find out I loved San Francisco by experiencing it first hand.

I agree with your take on gentrification and tech’s leading role in rising rent costs and other issues, but I made a point to embrace the lesser known neighborhoods of the city, walk and bike places, and live in a less glamorous neighborhood (Western Addition, though it went through a #rebrand and is now called NoPa). It’s tough when the local crowd just wants to make it a good vs. bad, old school SF vs. “you people” Tech bro conversation and listen with that bias in mind. I don’t think it’s that simple. You’re right that I’m not from San Francisco, and I worked in technology, but my job doesn’t renders my opinions and 5+ years of experiences meaningless, nor does it mean I didn’t explore the city’s lesser known but more authentic characteristics. But yes, I’m sorry I was willing to pay way too much for rent and drove up the cost of living.

Read Super Pumped earlier this year, really easy and enjoyable. Would recommend. Felt like I was reading the sequel to The Social Network. Travis is neither dog, nor killer, just a straight up animal.
