Trap Draw : Airports 4.1 now out

IAH-NRT is a rough experience already. It is exacerbated when the fidgety kid in the seat behind you is using the tray table as a footrest.

If I could be frozen in carbonite and shipped that would be preferable to flying.

This is how flying should be anyway. Freeze ‘em, stack ‘em and ship ‘em. Thaw me out in Mexico.

Searching. Not booking.

JetBlue would never!

Southwest still a mess, totally understaffed at DIA. Have been waiting at bag drop for 40 minutes and not halfway through the line. Haven’t taken a new customer in about 15 mins. I don’t think they have the capacity to even accept more bags right now. They’re claiming the conveyer belt is having issues but I doubt it.

A friend that works in ground operations at MCO sent this to me: https://twitter.com/airlivenet/status/1609982696624738310?s=20&t=ScBA6Tp8dawLEtI5E19wkw

Not a good day to be traveling in Florida!

I feel like SF and San Jose being separate areas is somewhat disingenuous

How does something like this happen? Aren’t there safety protocols in place to prevent something like this from happening?

It is a tough decision for me at least. With hotels, if you book through AMEX FHR, Virtuoso, ect you get the benefits but to my knowledge, the hotel sees it as any other third-party booking. @Tron can you confirm these programs that give $100 F&B credit, daily breakfast, etc all show as third-party?

Yes they do. Whenever I book w/ Virtuoso or FHR I go out of my way to confirm the reservation beyond what I would normally just to make sure it went thru GDS/into hotel system. But FHR is fantastic - I use it whenever I book luxury properties (should have noted it earlier, but was speaking specifically to OTA’s, whereas FHR is more on the traditional side.)

But typically when those come thru they’re different (in a good way) to an orbitz, Expedia, hotels dot com etc reservation. And if you insist on booking thru an OTA do not under any circumstances prepay the room thru the OTA. It’s a recipe for disaster with the ghost cards, cancellations, etc. Always keep the financial transaction between you and the hotel.

One of the greatest cuts of all time.

Yup, started up on a reduced schedule again late last year. Have done the PER-LHR leg and it’s fantastic. I’m 6’5" and had a seat in the middle of the plane, not even on the aisle. That is usually an instant cold sweat when I see it as leg room is non-existent and I can’t sleep upright. Howevah! The seats are bigger, and you can actually get your legs under the seat in front. Not having to transit through DXB is brilliant, more than makes up for the extra flying time. Flight leaves in the evening local time and arrives into London the next morning so even mitigates the jetlag/discombobulation somewhat.

Southwest giving out bonus RR points to those affected by the meltdown

Little review of my 2022 travel. Because of where I live I almost exclusively fly out of Newark. In 2022 I took 10 round-trip flights. 4 to Dallas to see my sister (she had a baby in May); then 1 each to Raleigh, Richmond, Las Vegas, Norfolk, Cancun, and Myrtle Beach. I know people don’t like it but I love Newark. If you have Clear and Pre-Check it takes maybe 5min in security. Terminal C is nice and updated. I like sitting and ordering at a bar on the iPad and not waiting on someone to come talk to me. No amex lounge sucks because the United Clubs stink. Polaris lounge is great if you qualify. No new airports this year but plan on getting a few new ones in 2023 including Paris.

Charles De Gaulle is pretty nice for a main European city airport, hope you get to go!

Here’s a short story that’s just beginning…

The wife and I are flying back from the Philippines on Singapore Airlines in a couple of days and the airline was kind enough to offer cash upgrades for legs of the trip. MNL to SIN was incredibly cheap for business class and premium economy from SIN-FRA-JFK was affordable too.

Rocking two browsers, I successfully purchased the upgrade for the wife first and then went to do mine.

Suddenly the premium economy option for the long leg of the trip was no longer available. Apparently there was one seat and now it’s gone.

Singapore Airlines can’t even downgrade her ticket and let us eat the cash because the flight was booked through a travel agent. So as of right now we will not be sitting together after all of the trouble and expense I went to a month ago to make that very thing happen.

Now I get to go tell her. The plan is to go with a “good news / bad news” approach and see how that lands.

Edit: She’s fine with it. I guess her getting the better seat isn’t a bad thing in her mind

As long as she’s got the legroom and you’re in the cattle car, she probably wont mind lol.

Make sure she sends you a drink from the first world.

While extremely unfortunate, this does sound like it could earn you some great credit (with the wife) to put towards a future golf trip.
