Trap Draw : Airports 4.1 now out

May sound weird but it would be really easy to park at Grapevine Mills, or one of the hotels close by. I have a ton of experience at that DFW Marriott south and you could park in the back, walk through with all your luggage and grab the Uber out front and they wouldnt even bat an eye.

I realize I’m part of the problem as a new AmEx Platinum cardholder, but holy smokes. DFW seemed completely empty today because literally everyone was in the Centurion lounge.

Flying on a 787-9 from DFW - Miami in premium economy. So far (we’re still sitting at the gate) I’m impressed! Got the little amenities package one would expect in business class and the seats / setup is very solid. Much better than would typically expect.

Make airline lounges exclusive again

This is interesting…I have flown premium economy on the DFW-LAX 787 route and the DFW-CUN 787 route and never have had an amenities kit.

The plane was coming from Cancun. Wonder if it was set up for international travel because of that? Either way solid flight. First time on one and it was pretty lovely.

I realize this is elitist but I don’t care. We need a separate line for people meeting minimum spend requirements. I’m putting an outrageous amount of spend on my Amex platinum I should not be waiting in line to get in the damn lounge.

Then is there going to be line split for requirement for money spent that is out of your pocket vs money spent that is business
and paid back inevitability being that you only spent the same out of your pocket as a the minimum guy? Not to say your not spending your own money. I have no clue. Lots of lines to be drawn.

I’ve flown both - FCO-DXB on a 773 then DXB-AKL on the 388.
AKL-SIN return on 773.

Have also flown long haul J on Air NZ (pretty good, great beds) and Swiss (pretty shit).

Singapore shades it for me, just.

  • better aesthetic - I prefer dark, muted tones and chocolate coloured leather to EK’s walnut and gold accents
  • nicer crew uniforms
  • wider seat
  • Changi is the best airport in the world, whether you’re transiting or ending/starting your journey. DXB is crowded and noisy and the J lounge is a mezzanine so even though you’re physically separated from the concourse, it’s still loud
  • from Auckland it’s nice to have two flights to Europe of roughly the same length, rather than a behemoth to Dubai then still be left with an irritating 5-7 hours to western Europe

EK has a slightly better network, and their limo transfer service at both ends and transit hotel experience in Dubai is awesome. Big fan of the tail livery as well.

  • it’s very close but I think SQ has better F&B. A Singapore Sling at 38,000 feet is iconic.

DFW CapOne Lounge is the real place to be

I let you all know how the Qantas club in Perth stacks up at 5am on Saturday morning. Probably something like this.

DFW was empty today. Parked in the terminal garage no problem. Seemed more empty than random times. The sold out pre-paid parking just spooked me.

@lonestarguido I love the airport south hotel play. I did that quite frequently just after college.

Flew 789 to ORD in J: no amenity kit. @timshel must be living right!

+1 @HennyBogan, shrink the lounge game.

Bring all the wide bodies back to America! #makeamericawideagain?

@nickp Is the Capital One Lounge worth opening a new credit card, getting a sign up bonus to take a mostly free trip and go to said lounge?

Take notes, Amex.

Probably not, but when they were doing the 100k mile signup I jumped and have been very glad that I did it.

" Pretty remarkable stat: between

@united

@Delta

and

@AmericanAir

yesterday there were a total of FOUR canceled flights. That’s a 99.99+% completion rate on a day the FAA said would be the busiest in terms of number of flights in the air."

From a pure logistics point of view, the air travel system is quite remarkable.

That is a staggeringly amazing stat. Airlines are certainly easy targets and there are plenty of self-inflicted wounds, but they run amazing operations.
