Relative newbie question: Why does Tron fly so much?
I am sorry about the 21 minute delay you experienced arriving at your destination. Unfortunately, due to the very limited number of gates at LIT, our team is limited on our options for the early morning rush.
It’s moments like these where we can all realize and acknowledge how far American has come when this is considered a poor flight experience. Thank you for bringing this to everyone’s attention!
Soly This bit
Jesus, @Soly are you sure you aren’t moonlighting as an AA Customer Service Representative? This is spot on.
I’ve heard arguments on both sides here, but I fall on the side of “spending $176m for a new outbound baggage system that delivers only 800 more bags an hour is highway robbery.” From the Austin airport press release:
Did I complain about arrival time? Nope. Did I miss connection? Nope. This just speaks to AA’s inept route and gate management. Imagine how much I could have accomplished with an extra hour of sleep! The possibilities!
In all seriousness the crew was apoplectic. So confused and apologized many times on behalf of the company.
I’ll give AA some credit. Clean and new planes. Flight attendants were pleasant. Not a bad experience overall.
800 bags doesn’t sound like much but a 50% increase does. Whoever wrote that press release failed.
If it had to be replaced then it probably makes sense. How many bags does the best outbound baggage handling system handle? I might go down an airport luggage rabbit hole here.
I’ve come to the conclusion that most airplanes and airports are awesome and it’s pretty much the airlines who ruin it. But I can’t really blame them because it’s a business and they could be way worse.
Also a big fan of the new inside outsides at airports. The one at YVR just opened this summer.
Visits beautiful Bill and Hilary Clinton airport and I don’t even get a hello. You deserve what you got.
He’s better than actual AA customer service.
@Soly do worse
I hear them AA flights from DFW have a little trouble with LIT airport:
@Tron stays out in these streets my dude. Can’t have your finger on the trigger of the pulse of golf without going out and livin’ it.
That’s why this shit is pure. He keeps it real. Real real. Ya dig?
Just went through my first experience with Southwest in over a decade and not gonna lie, surprisingly delightful! Also, Love Field in Dallas was much better than expected!
Edit: I also need to throw it out there that the luggage crowders are ridiculous.
lol it’s a good question that I often ask myself. I don’t think I fly that much more than my colleagues. This year I’ve done 44 segments on United, 26 segments on Delta, 4 on Wideroe and 2 on American. Nearly every trip is at least four segments coming from Jax with a connection. Tourist Sauce alone was 8 segments. I also enjoy going to refuge events, going to off-the-wall places that I haven’t been to play golf, and traveling with my wife when we have the chance. We take a lot less road trips now that we’re in Florida, vs. when we were in New England. Gotta fly to the interesting places from here.
Chicago Roost is playing Mt. Prospect on a Saturday in late June '23. Come on out!
@Tron, what is the radius from the gate to be considered a louse/lice?
Would a person who stands up as soon as the flight lands but does not attempt to get off the plane early be considered bad?
What if that person has documented lower back issues?
I don’t feel attacked; I just have to represent for my people out here with bad backs and necks.
Thanks, I’ll take my answers off the air.
When the flight lands and parks at the gate the people on the aisles stand up and grab their shit from the overhead bin as to speed up the deplaning process, anyone that rushes to the front is getting stonewalled.
a) totally depends on the airport - at Kansas City there are no gate lice because everyone is a louse bc it’s physically impossible to be more than 25 feet from the boarding area. In a modern airport there’s a vector of sorts that extends out in a “v” from the ticket scanners to the middle of the concourse.
b) I often stand up after the flight gets to the gate just to stretch my legs. It’s very clear when someone is doing that vs. eyeing the exit and cutting everyone off like a scumbag.
I’m happy to let people rush up the aisle when the flight crew make an announcement along the lines of “OK some folks here have tight connections to make”. I’ve been that guy sprinting through LAX and empathize.
But when it’s clearly a final destination for everyone (shoutout Tulsa), yeah, dick move.
Russillo podcast has been having a good discussion on standing up at the gate to stretch. At 6-3 I am 100% team standing to stretch and would never cut off a row in front of me to get off the plane.
Also a big fan of playing defense when it comes time for our row to exit. We need orderly exiting from aircraft! That means if you’re in an aisle seat and it’s almost your row’s turn to go, your job is stand up and block the cutters trying to sneak by. Row cutters are a stain on modern society and should be placed on the no fly list.
If you have a TIGHT connection (connecting flight departing within 5 minutes) and you’re trying to cut everyone, you better be constantly apologetically declaring up and down the aisle that you’re about to miss your flight. Sometimes there is nothing anyone can do to get you off the plane faster. You accepted that risk when you booked cheap seats at the back of the plane when you had a connecting flight!
