Trap Draw : Airports 4.1 now out

This is disappointing to hear - been a few times to the flagship lounge in Istanbul and have always been impressed. Hot shower, delicious food, neck and shoulder massage, even played 9 holes of golf on their SIM the first time I stopped by.

I regret to inform you all that the Frankfurt airport is a complete and utter disgrace.

It’s huge and disjointed but I’ve never had a bad experience there. All flights have been on time and the Lufthansa people have always been above and beyond kind and helpful.

Some co-workers had an BA flight from LHR-ATL today. It got cancelled after 3.5 hours on the plane because they didn’t have any silverware and by the time they realized it / u-turned to the gate they wouldn’t be able to make customs in ATL.

They were kind enough to re-route them tomorrow on the LHR-DTW-ATL…

Long story short - Fly Delta Jets!

AA doesn’t fly LHR-ATL. DL does, BA does, and possibly VS too, but not AA.

I’ve been through Frankfurt a lot. Coming from Budapest one time our plane was late. They pulled a bus up to the plane, got those of us with close connections on it and drove us around the airport and then escorted us through a special passport control.

Very nice.

But if you’re just wandering around it sucks. I swear some of the walks are so long you can see the curvature of the earth.

And I expected waaay better beer options.

Vienna’s airport though. Good beer.

More enjoyable for y’all?

It has to come with reasons.

Most airports are at least serviceable to good, so when one is actually bad it’s more exciting

I always have to remind myself that airports, much like the postal system, are hugely impressive logistical feats. Sure, you get some shitty experiences sometimes, but the sheer volume of people shifted & areas serviced is kinda mind-blowing.

I like this and the positive note from @MG82

I don’t want to see a renamed thread of all airports are a disgrace ala CFB no one is back and NFL all coaches stink. Let’s celebrate some airports more.

My local airport (Perth, Western Australia) gets shit on a fair bit, but it’s FINE. We live in the most isolated capital city in the world and can get most places pretty easily. We don’t need a huge airport as a) there’s not that many people living here to start with and b) not that many, in the grand scheme of things, who will ever visit as it’s so fucking far away.

I think everyone (maybe mainly Americans? :joy: ) has become spoilt by how easily they can get from A to B these days, particularly pre-Covid.

Lotta variables.

An airport can be serviceable because it gets you from A to B without much hassle but if the experience in the airport sucks that can take it down a notch.

Newark NJ is fine from a fly in fly out standpoint, but the actual experience in the airport blows goats. Getting a drink, getting a meal. Just horrible.

Or maybe driving to the airport blows. Huge complaints here in Denver. Although, I live way up north and just off the 470 tollway. It’s super easy for me. So I don’t care one bit if someone from central Denver or Littleton complains.

Or maybe getting from gate to gate. (Frankfurt, Atlanta)

Lots of reasons to hate on an airport.

exactly
so many negatives/hate is no bueno

Another reason to hate on an airport: access to ground transpo.

Flew into Austin-Bergstrom yesterday for the first time in over a decade, and grabbed an Uber to get to the course… it felt like a four-mile walk.

Same goes for Newark a couple weeks ago, getting to Amtrak was a massive endeavor.

Another reason MCI in Kansas City ain’t as bad as others.

This bus experience was our exact experience coming back from Venice (got out late due to acqua Alta, which was a SCENE).

We were flying to the US afterwards, so they took us to a little room in the bowels off the airport and processed us out of the EU in about 9 seconds.
Funny part was it was just my wife and I that had tight connections for this flight, so we had just us, the Lufthansa agent and the bus driver on a massive bendy bus ripping through the service areas of Frankfurt International.
Pulled us right up to the Dreamliner, walked us onto the plane and closed the door to the plane as soon as we stepped aboard.
