Trap Draw : Airports 4.1 now out

Allow me an opportunity to defend the undefensible:

For starters, the runway construction that is currently fucking things up is only supposed to last until mid-June. I know it’s common to assume construction projects rarely finish on time, but in the world of airports and taxiway/runway construction…they actually do. Maybe only 5% of projects go over their time budget, and that’s usually because it’s a small island where materials delivery can be delayed. Between 50 and 60% of projects finish early. There’s too much financial importance at stake for an airport to not be accurate with construction project estimates.

Back to the current runway closure, as long as the winds allow for landing on runway 29 (to the west) and departure off 22L/W (to the southwest), EWR can maintain a similar arrival rate to a normal day. However, if winds force flights onto 04R, then they become single runway ops and the delays/cancelations will be massive.

Thanks to United’s operation, it’s the NYC airport with the most international destination options by a single airline and that can be combined with a domestic flight network more robust than Delta’s JFK operation. Terminal C is still a nice terminal and the newly rebuilt A is outstanding.

Newark, it’s not the best, but it’s fine.

I’m not going to defend the indefensible things about EWR, but I will say, great please stay away. Makes my home airport less crowded

Newark was great for me Sunday, but looks like I made the right choice by going out of LGA Monday.

Never thought I would say it, but EWR has become my favorite of the NYC airports to fly into since Terminal A was revamped and they put the rental car facility right there

I’ve been to New York several times the past couple of years and I would say I vastly preferred everything about EWR to JFK or LGA.

All my EWR time was in the newer terminal, which makes a difference. I went through there 15ish years ago and … was not a fan.

So my wife is stuck on the tarmac at LGA because basically the road is closed. No route to Chicago. Everyone is taking the same route, so it’s full. What the fuck?

Tuff scene at DCA right now. Landed and have been sitting at our gate for coming up on half an hour while they try and fix a non-responsive jet bridge.

Thunderstorms in eastern Pennsylvania. Airspace too congested to deviate around. I bet N90 closed all westerly fixes out of NYC.

They should have stairs to allow you to deplane until the jetbridge issue is resolved.

Moving the plane. Ultimate karma for everyone who got their bags down and ran to the front of the plane. Almost worth the delay.

You still in town? Could meet up tn, flying out to Dallas in the morning from IAD

My sister missed a connection in Minneapolis last year because of a broken jet bridge. And it wasn’t that tight of a connection. They just didn’t let them off the plane for like two hours.

Headed up to Philly today on AA and I think I become more of a misanthrope every time I have to board a flight.

It’s a full house and that means overhead bin space is going to be tight. The gate agents and crew announce numerous times that only roll aboard bags should go up in the bins and backpacks and smaller bags should go under seats.

Naturally a large percentage of jerks put small little bags and backpacks in the bins because who cares about anyone else, right?

one time a passenger got mad at me for putting my super thin backpack on top of my carry on in the overhead, but nothing else could fit literally on top of my roll aboard

I have no problem with that.

My ire is reserved for the jerks who put their shopping bag up in the bin and by doing so force me to move their shit out of the way as I put my actual rolling bag up. I don’t want to touch someone else’s bag (that shouldn’t be up there in the first place).

Just ban carry-ons bigger than a purse.

I don’t think anyone would benefit from having more people loitering around the luggage corral waiting for their additional checked bags to come out.

People bring their whole lives on the plane and its gotta end.

I always feel wrong putting my backpack up there so I try to limit to only when I’m in a bulkhead row and/or if I checked my carry on size bag. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks like this.

ha, like airlines are gonna stop charging for checked bags
